Went to the St Louis Barbecue Store yesterday looking for Lumberjack Hickory Pellets. They were sold out due to the holiday weekend so I bought a 40 lb bag of Hickory CookinPellets. Does anyone have any experience cooking with those? They're a bit more expensive but I'm hoping they are at least as good as Lumberjack.

By the way, the St Louis Barbecue Store moved a couple miles away into a larger facility. And I must say it's quite nice and always fun to check out all the cool stuff they have.

Bob I got myself a 40# bag of CookinPellets Perfect mix after I used the Bear Mountain Hickory bag that came with the MAK. I found them “on sale” for $30. I’m in North Jersey so BBQ pellet brands aren’t readily available unless we are talking Traeger or Pit Boss pellets. The CookinPellets burn clean and little ash, although it’s not Hickory like what you got I did like the good smoke flavor, not too strong.

My next bags to try will be Lumberjack and BBQers delight. Malcolm Reed uses those and likes them. I also want to try the Bear Mountain gourmet blend.

Thanks. I've heard, and the guy at the St Louis Barbecue Store said, the CookinPellets produce less ash than the Lumberjack so I'll keep an eye on that.

I've only been in the pellet game for about a year. I've been using CP 100$ HICKORY almost since day one. They are fantastic (unless you don't like hickory). I get the price deal. But I think they have the most smoke flavor (I don't mess w/ mesquite) and they get hot, quick. You'll be happy.

BTW - I've been using a lot of LumberJack Pecan lately. Very good also. Maybe my favorite.
