• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Greetings Brethren:
I’ve been lurking for a couple of weeks picking up pointers here and there. (All of which were excellent) And I figured it was time I introduce myself.

I’m from Long Island, New York and I’ve been grilling for years. With in the past 2 years I’ve been grilling over wood. It’s more work then just lighting a gas grill, but so much more worth it.

When I saw a smoker in my local homedepot. I became the kid who really really wanted the toy on the shelve of the toy store. After much rationalization and envisioning myself in front of the smoker I bought it. It’s a Char-Broil Silver Smoker. Definitely a low end unit, but good for a beginner.

With the wisdom of the Brethren, I had a successful four hour run of maintaining a 220 – 250 temp range with out any problem. I believe I’m ready for a test chicken. I told my wife to be ready to order take out that night.

It should be fun. I’ll post my results good or bad.

Welcome and I don't think you will need take out just an open eye. Good Luck and Smoke-on

You will do fine on the Silver Smoker, I have one as well, although I have made a few mods, if you are interested let me know. Welcome abord!!

Welcome nonthink !!!

Don't worry, Long Island is now the fifth capital of BBQ, after the old standbys of KC, Memphis, TX and NC styles.... you'll be a pro soon enough with lots of experience to share.

Good morning and welcome to the canteen.
I too have a Silver Smoker that I got some years back before New Braunfels sold out or was taken over by char broil. Indeed they are great to start out on and in my opinion work quite nicely. You see many at comps like our recent Grill Kings event. As the spiderman advises, there are a couple of mods you will want to make once you get going.

Welcome, my new bruddah!! I too had a Silver Smoker and she taught me a bunch. Had to move up to the 'Dera when I started running out of grill space, though.

Welcome Non, everyone starts small; its where you finish that counts, the guy who dies with the most toys, wins.
Enjoy the ride!
