Hello brethren!
I am a complete BBQ newb! My BBQ experience started in the mid-90's with a roll-around commercial version of a horizontal 55gal drum barrel with wheels and a handle. I think they called it BBQ in a barrel or something like that. I owned a couple of gas grills with the last one being an Aussie Joey that rusted after 2 years (terrible grill). I was finally able to afford a good grill this last week and the best BBQ I have ever tasted came off Traeger grills from 2 different friends. Naturally, I had to have one.
I bought the Lil' Tex Elite and immediately fired her up (I seasoned as per the instructions). I bought some chicken and pork rub from the Traeger dealer and rubbed down some pork. I cooked it with the dial set on 350 (or something like that) and an hour later, I had the best, juicy BBQ pork I have ever made!
I don't know how regarded Traegers are around here, but I really like mine. My goal is to learn how to properly make all cuts of chicken, pork, beef and fish. There are no good BBQ joints in the Portland, OR area. We had a Rib City in the neighborhood for about a year and it closed. My wife and I were very disappointed. There is a chain called Buster's Texas style BBQ, but I was not very impressed at all. It was way overpriced and the meat was of poor quality. I gave up tyring to find a good BBQ joint so I resolved that I'm just going to have to learn to make it myself.
I really want to learn how to make fall-off-the-bone pork ribs and killer pulled pork. I'd like to also learn to make brisket. I've never had anyone to teach me how to make good BBQ so I look forward to reading and learning from what seems to be a great bunch of BBQ lovers.
I am so excited that I found this site! I am addicted to forums and am a moderator on another type of forum (non-cooking related). I can tell this is a tight-run ship which is the way I like it!
I've been reading some of the posts over the last 2 days and I have much to learn. You all speak a different language, but I will catch on. I already learned what a fatty is and I may try to make one in the next week or 2. :thumb:
See you around the forum!
