Hello from smokin hot Kansas

Hello, wanted to say hey to everone, I just joined couple of days ago, same day I entered my first contest. I love to cook for friends and family and really enjoy the looks and smiles on their faces with the end result(most of the time!!) The event friend of mine entered in was for our county fair. this was the first year for it not a very big fieldabout 15 entries. Had a team named Smokin Shoals from Arkansas come upwere nice fellows. We were fairly unprepared, was alot more hectic than I would have thought. Presentation was something alittle diffrent to me.Was cutting my meat up, going thru lettuce for the box, trying pick out nice sliceces, keeping the box clean. but we got thru it. MY team did win a nice 80 piece knife set that my friend will keep to use at his bar and grill. Dont know about rest of you but I am pretty busy with my garden I picked a 6 ft table full of tomatos this morning. We can whole tomatos,salsa,juice,spagetti sauce. We also put up saurkraut,pickled okra, pickled jalopenos, and a few green beans. Seems like Ive been rambling somthing terrible. Was going to mow the yard but it is so dang hot 100deg plus. Welcome my new brother! I'll be more than happy to trade cooking tips for gardening tips! :lol: My poor tomatoes just aren't going to make it, I'll be lucky to get 4 or 5 this year, and you're talking about canning them. :shock: :lol:

Burlington, Emporia, Topeka and Ottawa. Been through there many a time. I'm just down the road a piece near Newton. How can you have such great tomatoes? Ours stink this year.

I beleive power in numbers the law of averages helps me out. I plant about 30 or 35 plants. Also we didnt get some of the real big rain some folks got. People not that far from around here got rains of 8 to 10 in. in one shot and drown their gardens out.
