I am looking to get one as I am getting tired of taking so long to get the briquettes up and running. I also need to burn off some galvanized metal on milk crates for my uds fire box. Do they work ok. Do you wish they had a longer handle etc.

Which one did you buy the 19 dollar one or the 34 dollar one?

Any info greatly appreciated

I bought the simple one with no auto starter, it has held up just fine. It gets the job done. I also bought a torch striker to go with it and get it started. For the amount of use they get, they hold up very nicely and work very well. Plus, they are FUN as heck to use.

I also got the one from Harbor Freight without the pizio electric starter. Been using it for over a year. Works great! I rarely use my chimney starter anymore.

thanks guys. guess I'll get one tomorrow in Billings. Is there an attachment you need for the larger propane tanks? Anything I need to buy extra?

my igniter went out after 4 months of use. I just use a lighter now. My hose also is bubbled from heat..(my fault). I plan on getting another one since a new one is the same price as just the hose. I will be getting one without the igniter since they dont work very long.

I've had the one with the starter for a few years and it still works like new. I keep it in the garage when it isn't in use. I've got another one with the starter that is kept outside and the starter didn't last too long. I just use a striker to light that one. I guess what i am saying is that if you plan to take care of it then get the one with the ignitor and if you don't plan to take care of it then save your money and get the cheap one.

I have the one with out the starter, works great. I just use a long stemmed lighter to ignite it. Connects just fine to the 20lb propane tanks and makes one heck of a fire.

Mine worked great until I loaned to a guy at a comp. He stuck the whole head of it in the chimney starter. Burned the ingniter and must have done something to the metal because the bonnet fell off. Ended up junking it.

Lasted almost two years until then.

Those things are like the American Express Card. "Dont leave home without it!" I have the HF cheapo as well. I cant say enough good about it. The real nice bonus is that people will think you are a total psycho when you pull out your weed burner to fire off your smokey joe, Forget about that "boyscout in a can" you used before, you dont need it. Camp fires? We dont need no stinking kindling. Hit that bad boy with the weed burner and your camp fire will be crackling away in no time with a lot less smoke. Weed Burner, The Green Choice. Crem Brule at Camp... NO PROBLEM. Big Bugs?.... NO PROBLEM Zip-lock bombs?... NO PROBLEM. The uses are endless. Billy Mays should have done an infomercial on this thing!

I got the one with the starter about 2 years ago, still going strong. I use it all the time, don't know how I lived without it.
I leant it to my neighbor (who is a bit of a pyro) to start a huge brush pile on fire. It was so funny, it sounded like a jet was taking off in his yard all day. Needless to say he has since bought one.
