• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Guru, Stoker, etc.

Is it a personal preference like a smoker or certain ones better than the others? I have no experience whatsoever with any of these.

i have experience with the guru on my big green egg.....it's nice if i want to go to bed and cook at the same time.....however, i am mostly a hot and fast guy these days therefore I don't really use the guru anymore......and i have never used anything on my main smoker for comps.

I have a Guru DiGiQ DX2 and an Auber and I have had better results with the Auber that is 40% cheaper. I think I was able to get the Auber for under $150 plus tax and shipping.

I've only used gurus but I can tell you why. As I researched the difference in the guru and stoker it seemed like the stoker might be slightly better, but the stories of their customer service were polar opposites. In the end I just felt like if I ever had an issue that the guru people were going to always be more helpful.

As of late I see people saying the Guru customer service is lacking (I cannot confirm this). Many people seem to like FlameBoss products.

I would buy one of the Qmaster products personally. Heater Meter is also an option.

A good resource for this is amazingribs.com. They have reviewed a number of the most popular temp controllers.

I own a dx2 that drives my 22" WSM. Never had issues or need to call for service.

I enjoy my 2 Aubers a lot. Was planning on purchasing a guru but decided on the cheaper Aubers based on the amazing ribs reviews. I've been very satisfied

Stoker is under different ownership and customer service is great now. Just switched this year to WiFi model after my original 9 year old model died . the stoker can control as many devices, temp probes and meat probes as you'd like

I did better when I gave up the guru. It forces you to pay attention to what is going on with your smoker. Smoker, thermapen, timer, kick your dampers and answer the timer. Less is more.

I've used both, and prefer the stoker. Seems more accurate, and connectivity to computers is great. But, If I never needed to run multiple smokers and probes, I'd probably go with guru or one of the auberins controllers.

It is nice to graph 6 hunks of meat.

Why do you say you'd go with guru for multiple smokers when the stoker can actually run multiple smokers? I personally liked the idea of using gurus so that I don't have a single point of failure while I am at a competition, but I'm wondering if there are other reasons.

What smoker do you use these on? The Auber seems like a really good deal.

18" WSM and Backwoods Fatboy G2. Works well one both. I did go for the 10 cfm fan.

For the WSM I bought a 4" Fad Daddio's Aluminum cake pan for $5 on Amazon, drilled a 1 1/4 inch hole (this was a bit I had but any size will do) and made an adapter similar to the Stoker. When I am at a comp I have a bit more piece of mind when it is tightened down with a wing nut. If you have questions on how to make the adapter let post here or PM me.

Go for the flame boss guru or stoker. I am not a fan of the stoker my teammate has one and I just don't get it compared to the others. You are spending all thisonly on a smoker go for a name brand stoker system. My vote is for the guru. I have two and love them.

Im a Stoker fan I have had mine for 4+ years now very little issues and ever had issues and when i did customer service was great. started with 2 UDS and now I use it out on our Down East beast. I like the fact you can control multiple pits, endless probes, and pc/mac/ or mobile apps
