• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Has anyone put a Guru on a Spicewine? If so do you think it was worth the additional investment? Have not orderd a Guru yet but thinking about it.

I want to put a stoker on my smoker... it can be added onto very easily, with dual fans, and multiple food probes, and also be hooked up to my wireless connection at home so I can sleep until an alarm sounds. It would be nice... and at comps, I can run an ethernet line from the unit to a tent/cot and get some sleep, too.

nah.. We wont use them at bashes. :) Your still employeed.

I always get to sleep. Barrel holds temp for hours without me messing with it.

I have a Guru on my Bandera and it works great. Because the Bandera leaks like a sive and has no insulation, it took some tweaking to get the Guru doing what it needs to do. Because the Spicewine is so well constructed, the Guru would be a great add-on. You would need to customize the plate that attaches the fan to the smoker and drill a hole for the temp probes.

I like the Guru because it's pretty simple to operate. If I was more technically minded ( you computer geeks know who you are), I would explore the Stoker, but at this point I'd rather focus on the Q, not the pit controller.

We used a Guru on our Double Walled KingFisher... worked like a champ.

We'll be testing out the stoker this season. I've already got the wifi router to hook up to it... so I can check temps from my pocket pc by the margarita machine. I could boost the heck out of it... and really get some distance!!!

We just had our annual Cal. BBQ Assn. get together last weekend. The guy who invented the Stoker and his partner who wrote the software for it did a demo on a Stumps gravity feed for us. It was quite impressive. He can monitor several cookers at the same time with just one unit. I don't know enough about the Guru to say how the two compare, but he seemed to have overcome some of the issues people have with the Guru.

Here is a pic of the stoker from Qfest:

Looks like that poor smoker had a heart attack and is hooked up to a bunch of monitors. Get Well Soon!

So true! But while trolling the links on a particular site, I noticed a drum smoker with a Guru attatched to it, must be a heavy sleeper!
