Yep...just set the grate on top the charcoal ring...be careful though...the top grate will warp...I'd grill with the lower grate...it's a bit heavier.:cool:
 
or you could remove the middle piece and put the grill on the top leg bolts of the bottom part (but you might have to extend those a little i think) or i think you can just balance it on the charcoal ring.

Ditto what has been said, those grates can and will warp (all mine are warped but so am I).

Another way I have grilled was after smoking stuff, I left the lid off for about 30 minutes and all the remaining lump in the charcoal ring lit up, and heated up the sand pan (I use a foil-lined sand pan) and put out a lot of heat. I grill burgers and dogs for the kids on the top rack this way while everyone else is eating real bbq.
