• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Ok, brain fart while working tonight.

What's the protocall for cleaning grill grates?
Stainless?
Porcelan coated?

Like what kind of wire brush to use?
 
I just use the standard BBQ brush. On ocassion, I'll also use warm soapy water.
 
I guess what I was asking, is what's the difference between grill brushes? Brass, stainless, etc..
 
I try to stay clear of those type of brushes as the bristles tend to break off and stay behind and then end up on the food. So, either a good dunk in water after using one of those, replacing the brush on a regular basis, or I use wadded up used aluminum foil.
 
I've taken the stainless right off my WSM grates and they now rust.

I switched to those plastic scrubber thingy's after soaking them in hot water
 
I use that Bam cleaner, spray on put in trash bag, let set in sun and then hose off. Comes out clean.
 
I just soak them in water for a few days. Most the $hit just dissolves or can be hosed off. Stubborn spots may need a wipe with a scotch pad.
 
I put them on the gasser, turn it up all the way, close the lid and come back in about 10 to 15 minutes. Smells pretty good while I'm doing it too.

Been using this grill brush for a couple months now and I love it. I will never go back to a bristle brush again. For enamel grates I switch out the scrubber to a copper one instead of a stainless one which a readably available at your local grocer.

i have used the gasser method too. toss them on the gasser with the flame turned way up and let it go for about 1/2 hour. i like this method too. I used to do my cookshack that way. worked like a charm.
 
Man I don't use anything but heat and a brush. Fire her up, let the stuff get really hot and brush it off with a wire grill brush. Then rub the grate with veggie oil. havnt had any problems yet.
 
I just use a brass BBq brush before hand, then when I dump the coals in I let the grate get really hot, then I use the brush again, oil the grate and off I go.. I figure the heat will kill anything bad. So far so good!
 
a couple of you mentioned what I was trying to remember last night. Brass brush on enamel. The Klose gets the brush burner treatment. But the egg has an enamel grate. I'm ordering a custom stainless grate, then I won't have to worry. If I ever have to replace the grates in the Klose, I'll probably go with ss expanded also.
 
High heat over coals, or the gasser and then a brush.

the brass brush is softer, so i use it on everything. The stainless will wreck the procleain in the bandra or on my gassers. i prefer brass for everything, or one of thosw escrubby things like bill mentioned.

Also, in a pinch, a crumpled up piece of foil works well. just be careful, in conducts the heat straight into your fingertips.
