• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

anyone got a good source for cooking wood here in the burbs of Chicago ? Im a bit tired of the high shipping charges of the online place I use and driving to Chicago Firewood is a pain.

Does Lynfred Wineries still sell wood from the oak barrels the wine ages in? They're in Roselle, as I recall...

they are 4 blocks from my house..they have a ton of wood stacked in back..did not know it was for sale..knowing them its probably way overpriced though

Some of the local apple orchards will sell (or even give away) the trimmings from the apple trees. I haven't tried to get any yet but I plan on asking the farm that we go to on our next visit (probably in a couple of weeks.

I usually get my Apple from a friend that has a small orchard…. For Hickory, try Red’s on Dundee (Northbrook / Deerfield area)

i work in Northbrook so ill check out Reds..thanks!

D'oh! You did say cooking wood, not flavoring wood. Their pieces might not be large enough for cooking purposes to get a decent burn-time.

Careful

Website indicates they carry pinnion for pine smelling chimnea owners.

If its seperate though, they might have a good selection, just mixed together per their homepage

I got the same type of outfit here, but much cheaper. Wood is labelled, but the folks are kinda idiots and I wouldn't trust their "oak" as being 100% oak, so I don't risk it.

Stuck with chunks from Menards

I have shage bark hikory comming out of my ears and some apple and a little cherry i am willing to trade

chunks specifically..but large can always be cut up

They cooked at Libertyville last year. Decent enough guys. They sell lump and various smoke woods. Never bought anything from them, would like to hear back if you do.

I’ve bought from them and yes, they do keep the Hickory separate from the rest of the fire wood… in fact they sell it in sizes from bundles (6-8 split logs) to full cords…
