From what I've heard they're pretty hard to grow in most parts of the US. I've only had ground myself and only seen dried available over the internet. I've seen folks selling seeds, but not fresh peppers. I'd love to obtain a couple, though!

This time of the year i doubt you will find any fresh ones unless some one has been growing them in a green house. It will be mid-summer before mine will be ready. You can get dried ones on e-bay.

ghost peppers

I'm attempting to grow some this year. I have about 10 sprouts, but nothing yet. I sure hope they will grow well.

Fresh, no, but I found some dried ones in an unlikely place the other day - the local supermarket! Whatcha gonna do with 'em? Burn some judges you don't like? :)

You're outta your mind using those at a comp. They'll bring the judges to their knees!

yeah seriously. what kind of monster uses ghost peppers in any type of contest? they bring pain like no other. even a chili contest doesnt need ghost peppers.

PM me your address I'll send ya a few dried Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Peppers) for you to try....

I use ghost peppers for sauces and our Award Winning HOTTEST Chile!!!! LOL

As for them being hard to grow....just getting them started is the hard part but then they take off!!! I had 12 plants last year and this year I have 8 started.

You must not like your judges!!! Good luck with your quest!

I was looking at these on Pepper Joes website the other day. The Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Peppers) is 970,000 Scoville Units, compared to Habanero at 200,000 - 300,000, and 2500-5000 for the lowley Jalapeno.

We have a ghost pepper bbq sauce, we order dried ghost peppers from sysco. They are also available at higher end grocery stores.

Just thinking about if somebody burned me with one of those intentionally, I would hunt them down and do some serious damage in return.

Hope there's nothing malicious intended.

Wow I eat these peppers all the time....I am a "chilihead" along with smoking and bbqin!!! I judge hot sauce and salsa competitions all the time. With those competitions you get everything from mild to totally out of this world!!!!! My garden has several different hots and SUPER hots in it!!!!!

I have not yet tried the ghost peppers, but since you seem to be a veteran chili head, how do they compare to African Devil pepper?

Nice to know. I may have to get me some seeds and try to grow some. I love the flavor of these peppers when used judiciously (though I can take a LOT of HIGH heat). However, I can't judge anymore when something is too hot for people who think Tabasco sauce is hot so I don't use any Ghost powder in anything except something I'm eating myself.

Last fall my neighbor was having some work done on his house and the last day the crew was there, all my ripe ghost peppers vanished from my pepper patch. I would loved to see the face on the sob that took 'em after he bit one,

they grow pretty well out here in california..here is a pic

they also just announced one even hotter than the ghost!..it's called the infinnity pepper..it's about 20,000 scoville units hotter..

the african devil pepper has a rating of 50000 ~ 70000 SHU while the Bhut Jolokia has a 855000 ~ 1100000 SHU. The African Devil has a pleasant citrus taste comparable to that of the Red Savina, The Bhut Jolokia has a slight citrus flavor that you really do not have a chance to enjoy before the intense heat takes over. The burn from the African Devil stays with you for around 10 - 15 minutes. The bhut jolokia starts the burn a few seconds after the first bite and continues to build for about 20 minutes and stays for a good while.
