I didn't think I could look at another turkey after frying so many at thanksgiving but that looks darn tasty! Wish I had a leg.

Finally developed a couple pictures from the great Thanksgiving Turkey fry.

Y'all are making me hungry for a turkey sandwich. It ain't hard to make me hungry though. Actually it's easier tonight than usual. I went out to dinner tonight and got a flat iron steak. It was my first and last (at that place anyway). It was cooked nice but the cut was beyond tough and I only ate about 1/4 of it before I gave up. You gotta love spending 75 bucks for 2 meals and winding up leaving hungry. Anyway, that's some good looking turkey!

Kirk, did you order that "flat iron steak" rare or medium rare?
No matter what they call it, that cut is a top blade steak, cut from the chuck-it is a shoulder steak.
The top blade is reputed to be the second most tender muscle on a steer, with of course the tenderloin first. I am not so sure. However the top blade can be a tender, grillabe steak, if it is not cooked past medium rare. It does have to come from a quality carcass though.

I am not sure I would spend that much on a steak from the front of a steer, no matter what they named it.

I had a turkey fryer but it never mad it out of the box.
Before I opening it I saw a clip of fire that resulted from an accident while cooking. Anyway, I got a little spooked and brought it back to the store.

In saying all this, your pics are making me think about buying one again.

....Flat iron is a wonderful cut, but only runs $4 to $5 a pound.

Pick one up and check it out... they are second to tri-tip in my book.

I didn't mean to take Chingador's thread off course here. I just want to clarify by saying that the whole dinner (my wife's and my own) totalled 75 bucks w/tip. The steak itself was around $16.50. I would've rather paid that to try one of Chingy's turkeys, that's for sure.

That is an accurate description. I couldn't see for the first 30 minutes until my body "adjusted" to the heat, oil, and spices. That turkey was the last one, number 108 I think.

That is some setup you have there smoke. Thanks for adding the pictures. Looking good.

That is a gooooood lookin' turkey. I enjoy them so much, I don't own a frying set-up. When I get an invite to eat one, it makes them much more special. (I'm like second in line ((behind the cook)) for some of the skin).

I cracked a little wise about the tab and all.....but try a flat iron at home they are really good.

Chuck steak is a crap shoot. I've had some awesome eats. Also had some nasty results. Did a crockpot chuck roast today from my favorite butcher. My bride and son prefer overdone fall apart beef roast. They got what they wanted. I wanted to cry after seeing how beautifull this roast turned out. It would have been a barbecue delight. Man I hate winter. Need to get an egg.

Anyone ever smoke for a little while to add flavor and finish in the deep fryer? Seems to me that i had read that somewhere, and sounds like it would be really good. :-D

I believe Norco smoked one and then deep fried it to finish.

Man, I forgot about smo-frying. I should try that with chicken some time.

The list of recipes grows longer!

That is a fine looking fried turkey. NOTHING beats fried turkey skin. To be honest, I think the skin is the only real reason I ever really fry turkeys! Sure the meats good, but man, that skin!

BRING ON THE PRON! SHOW ME SOME SKIN BABY!!!
