Personally, I love them, I was riding past an old time farmer where he sets up every year to sell his vegetables. Every time I drove by I keep noticing the Green tomato's he had. On my fourth trip by I stopped and bought some.
Now I was just wandering If there was some out of this world recipe one of you might have for me to try. I usually just dip them in egg wash and coat with a flour and cornmeal mixture and fry until golden brown.
What you Brothers got for me.

other than a little salt and pepper, what the fark else do you need or want? Perfection needs no perfecting!!

as qman said just add a little salt and pepper, my kin folk in kentucky adds just a drop or two of hot sauce to the wash

Ok, so no one has ever tried to smoke them, not that I want to.

No, but if you want to put a fine mesh topper [like the ones made for seafood, etc] on a very hot charcoal fire, and grill them, believe that that has been done before. Only thing is that they cook so fast, you really don't get much extra taste from the charcoal but you can look neat doing it:twisted:

I want to know how to eat then without getting the trots ?

Fried Green Tomatoes...

Wait until the tomatoes are just starting to get some color
Cut to 1/8 inch thick... maybe just a little thicker
Put on a plate and salt them heavily... you have to get the moisture out of them.
Drain the water off the plate
Sprinkle with some fresh ground black pepper
Dredge in cracker meal... let set 5 minutes
Dredge again in cracker meal
Fry in peanut oil until brown turning as necessary
Drain on a paper towel
Eat the fark out of em

Enough said!!!!!

Gramam said the same thing salt, pepper, and a little flour.

Darn tootin. The simpler the better. There really isn't any reason to mess with smoking the tomatoes IMO. You need them to be firm enough to bread and fry and you may lose some of the tartness from the green tomato which is the main reason they taste so darn good!

Yea hot sauce to the egg or hot chili powder to the dry stuff plus the S&P of course. How about some Chipotle powder.

I had no idea that Jimmy Brod produces that stuff:biggrin:

Cut real thin (Thicker than a potato chip but not much) and use light coat of milk and Zanerans seasoned fish season. Put the zaneran in a gallon baggie coat the tomatoes with milk drom in bag shake until lightly coated and fry to a golden brown. Great

Here are some fried green tomatoes from last season. I like to put them in an egg wash and dredge them with seaoned flour/corn meal. You could use a preseasoned flour for fish frying like Andy's or Johnny's.
