• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

This followed me around Goodwill for about 20 minutes so I took it home. It had a $20 adoption fee. It is 27 years old at least the lid is. Wood handle on lid plastic on bace It came with an electric charcoal starter and a corn roaster. I got it for smoker parts but now I am not sure. I still need a lid for my UDS. It is very dirty and a bit dented and chipped. I designed a ash catcher/wind proofing system on the way home.

Real good deal for $20, especially with the accessories.

I registered on the Weber kettle club yesterday. I planning to introduce myself there tonight. My dad told me when I was young that weber kettles were junk because you couldn't adjust the height of the cooking grate. He used a Meco grill. I used one from a thrift store till it was too small and gave it to him when we moved to Wyoming I got a Brinkmann with adjustable height charcoal bed and the thing I miss about the Meco is closable air vents. You lite a chimney or 2 of charcoal and mo matter how quick of a cook it is all the charcoal is used up. I will need to learn how to use a kettle. I did steaks a few days ago on the SJ premium I got at the thrift store a couple weeks ago my wife missed the grill marks I liked how it turned out.

I'd snatch it just for the lid. I couldn't find a donor lid for my 2nd 007 build so I had to get an el cheapo Weber from Walmart.

When I got it, it was for the lid and grates for my double layer UDS build but I think I will keep looking for a lid. I can make sure a kettle lid will fit my build. I have 3 drums to choose from for my inner drum. Outer drum is a 85 gallon drum.

Good score. I felt lucky to pick up a clean complete one for $35 on CL, since I needed a lid and grate for my uds. Typically, they are $65-70.

Great find! I'd be very interested in your windproof mod. I was lucky enough to find a Weber kettle on a Craigslist curbside alert a couple of years back. I took it to the family cabin intending to use the lid for a UDS build. The next time I was at the cabin I found that my brother's family had cleaned it up and bought a new SS grate for it.

Ummm.... you can just switch the lid from the drum to the UDS as needed guys... Same for the grates...:-D

I will eather find another lid or kettle or share the lid. And put the grates on my Christmas list. As for the wind proof design is to put the kettle in an extra 55 gallon drum that I am going to put 1" holes covered with fridge magnets and a bucket in the drum. I will open the Daisy wheels all the way on the kettle. As I am out on the wind swept prairie I am very worried about sparks. When I finish the UDS/grill system I designed l may retire the kettle.
