• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I smoked on my bandera Saturday and decided to brew some beer also . I pulled my menagerie of equipment out of the garage and fired it all up. Everything was going great until the flys came. They swarmed me …the meat was safe in the bandera but my beer is in a open kettle bugweisermod. I was just wondering if there’s any tips for keeping this guys away from the party.

smoke.. lots of smoke... think it was the wert they were after, cause they definately dont like the smoke. You were boiling the grain when u got swarmed? I did that outside a few times cause the wife said i made the house smell like beer. .. never again.. the bees were hovering around the pot till i stopped the boiling. Another time i had so much tree pollen blowing in the pot that the batch skunked out on me before it went into the secondary container. Smelled like a diaper during transfer. My recommendation.. inside.. or screened porch.

I have a woodpile answer.

Q'talk answer...bug zapper or those sticky fly strips.

Like Phil said: smoke! they don't like it.

Fly repellant from stores near a New Mexico feedlot - monster flies

Fill a clear plastic bag with water and hang it near the door or porch or campsiite - don't know why but it seems to work

Always been told that their eyes can't handle it. Used a lot around stables as well. If you plan to leave the up for a while make sure that you add a little bleach to the water, otherwise the effect is lost when everything turns green.

The flies in Oklahoma have been bad this year and smoke doesn't even slow 'em down. I bought a Yard Guard product for flies and that worked like magic. I'd cover the brew pot before spraying though - I doubt the yeast would like whatever the active ingredient is!

To add to that, I have heard that the water bags reminds them of a hornets nest. Apparently, the hornet is the fly's most feared enemy.

Hell, I have a batch in my shed that are going to bite the bullet the next time I go in there!

well, I know for a fact that Louisiana flies AND mosquitoes laugh them selves silly at a hung water bag...doesnt seem to work here at all.
