• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Got a Smoke King Deluxe off of CL for a great price this last weekend and did up my first batch of baby-backs. FANTASTIC! I think I'm going to like this hobby/affliction. Anyway, here's some pics of my ribs and of the smoker itself.

Not sure what mods I should concentrate on. I downloaded Bandera 101 - looks I have a baffle (factory) and the fire grate seems pretty high. Maybe a door seal and firebricks? Or, maybe it's just my technique? I had the normal problem of not getting hot enough.

Anyone had any success at mounting another thermometer lower on the door? Replacing the upper thermo? The current is off by 50-70 degrees (normal, so I've read).

Any suggestions/recommendations, or should I just keep experimenting?

Looks great!!! Bet I can guess which way they were facing :) Might want to consider rotating the meat as it's cooking. Looks like a great smoker score you got there. Scott

Very nice, and you'll always be experimenting. I rarely do the same thing twice...whether it is just a short cut that day, or just because I want to and can.

Thanks! :-D Yes, rotation is on the list for next time. I'm starting a notebook so I can keep track of what works and what doesn't.

Looks great...Nice smoker find also....Stick around and post often you'll learn more than you could imagine!

Good job DAve. Yes, rotation is a necessity. Keep cooking and you will learn all the hot and cool spots in your cooker. These also change when you really load one up like I always seem to do. More is better.

The eats look very nice... and you will love the BSKD.

I added the firebricks in the firebox and in the smoke chamber. I also just came in from making a firebasket. I bought the expanded metal from HD, cut it with a sawzall, bent it together and bolted it up. I know it will help in getting higher temps and longer times between tending.
