• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

So today I had a slab of ribs on my WSM, after three hours @ 225deg I went out to spriz and found that the cover had all the inside paint flake off and fall onto my ribs, WTH?

Okay, went and read the manual. I see now that it's suppose to be cooked on grease not paint.

First time seeing it was quite a shock!

I was going to ask if it was just flakes from cooking, I've never had my WSM lid flake like that but the lid on my kettle I'd have to brush from time to time.

I see you know it's not paint. It's from something you cooked before.

Well, on a positive note my lid is clean for the prime rib I'm putting on in the morning!

I'll chalk this up as a win.........

A ball of aluminum foil is great for cleaning wsm grates and lid

Happened to me too. Now I know to clean the lid occasionally.

Same thing happend on my gas grill. The ball of foil is the remedy

This happens both on my weber kettle and on my offset. It's just the natural seasoning that happens on the metal as it gets used. I've noticed that it tends to bubble up and flake off right after I get it really hot. The heat is what bubbles it, then it will get brittle and flake off for the next few cooks.

So make sure to double check after you've gotten the cooker hotter than normal.
