As mentioned in this post I got my Meater in the mail after a long wait (and what I assumed was a wasted donation): http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=251207
Wanted to give my review after my first cook -- Some Prime boneless ribeyes from Costco. I'm more interested in how it does for a long cook (ex. BBQ Pork Butt), but this will have to do to start.
Overall I was pretty happy with it. I used my Thermoworks Smoke probes as my control, and found that the Meater did very well with the internal temps. Pit temps were a little off (about 15 degrees), but that could have very well been my pit (Primo). I definitely want to test it out some more, and have some concerns with the long term reliability, but so good so far. I did find that the iPhone app was good, and I really liked a couple features. The "Time remaining" was really nice. It estimates how long it'll be until your meat gets to the target temp. The chart feature was pretty cool too. Pictures of both are below.
Setup: I was looking to reverse sear these ribeyes, so some things won't be "ideal". I was going for a nice medium rare, and wanted to pull the steaks when they were around 110. I let them rest until my grill was blazing, and then did a quick 1-2 minute sear. I pulled the temp probes before doing the last sear.
Now on to the pics:
EDIT: Not sure why the pictures are so massive - If anyone knows how to reduce the size please let me know. You can directly go to the album here if you'd rather: https://imgur.com/gallery/rGtHB
1) Steaks ready to go on the grill. Meater in one, and my Thermoworks Smoke probe in the other
2) On the "cool" side of the grill
3) Screenshot of Meater App: -- Liked the 'Time remaining' feature
4) Side by side with my Thermoworks -- Note that the app is telling me to pull the meat knowing that in resting it will rise to the target temp
5) Temp graph - Note that you can clearly tell where I a) put on the meat, b) opened the lid to check progress and c) pulled the meat
6) Searing over some blazing coals -- Temp sensors are out at this point
7) On the plate -- Temp was a perfect medium rare
