• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

OK boys and girls,
Decided since I wasn't smokin today I needed to experiment. Picked up 6 nice fresh jalapenos at WM. Have them seeded and cleaned out.
I wasn't sure what to stuff them with, but the wife had just bought fresh cherries and string cheese.
ABTs stuffed with chopped cherries and string cheese, wrapped in bacon (which the SoDT told me we had, NOT) it will be.
So, off to the store for a pound-o-bacon and on to the kettle indirect they go.

I gotta say that the cherries sound a bit odd in there, but what do I know?

Perhaps you should try them in a couple , and some other combinations in the other ones as long as you are experimenting?

I can't believe you've been a member here for a year, and this is your first ABTs. I'm not a fan of cherries, so I would go with just cheese.

And I usually incorporate a rub in the stuffing mixture. If I don't, they seem to come out a little bland for my taste.

That might work pretty well. There is a jalapeno rasberry sauce that goes great over cream cheese.

Well folks, let me tell you.
These ABTs were so good even my wife ate them.
Neighbors loved 'em too!
I think cream cheese and cherries would be a mo betta combo than the string cheese, but still, they were very tasty.
So, here are some before and after pics:

I like it!!! Ya never know what's gonna be good or bad till you step outside the box...still...the cherry thing freaks me out a little! LOL!

Well done first time around. Now try what ever variations you can think of. I like using a crumbled fatty mixed with honey nut cream cheese as a filling.

Sweet to offset the heat of the Jap is a pretty cool idea. Like Joe said, dessert ABT: pineapple, apple, ?

Forsee big trouble with the cherries deal around my house. If I start making them and the kids start eating just about guarantee I won't get one. Regular ones disappear while i'm tending the meat. Good call on desert ABT's.

Thanks guys!
I gotta be honest here, the cherries didn't add a whole lot of flavor, but they were still really good. Next time I may try raspberries or dried cranberries with cream chese. I think it would add just a little more flavor.
I was pleasently surprised that the jalapenos were actually pretty mild, as was the wife. She does not like hot stuff, so for her to eat these was good news.
Thillin - I'm the only one who would typically eat something like this, thus I was in no hurry to try them. Now that I know the wife will eat them, it will be something I make more often.

I thought so at too first but then if you think about it, cherries on a smoked ham are excellent. I'll bet the contrast of heat, smoke and bacon will really make them pop with flavor. I'll bet they were the bomb!

I had some dip my wife makes up left one weekend (cream cheese and salsa mixed eaten with Fritos) and used it as Abt stuffing. Gave different taste also.

the cherries didn't add a whole lot of flavor,

Were these red or black cherries? Or I guess Marchiano(sp?) or bing?
Sounds interesting, but I do not like the sweet red ones. I do like the idea of the black ones though.

Sounds great... One my favorites it cherry peppers with black raspberry preserves and brie... great stuff!

These were a really dark red cherry. The wife got 'em, and I don't know what they were. They had a very dark red flesh as well. I know they weren'r marachinos, I'd guess they were either black or bing.
