• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I have a 500, and had 1 small episode of back burn due to a collection of dust in the bottom of the hopper. I've found that before every long session, I take my Shop Vac and vacuum out the fire pots, then I vacuum the hopper / auger from the firebox side. It sucks out a bunch of the fines / dust. Since then, no problem. Knock on wood.

I don't have that big of a pellet smoker but I do the samething to mine after long burns.

I dont think he meant it that way. You said, "Knock on wood", I think he meant, you should have said, "knock on pellets."

Oh, I get it. Sorry.

Hold.... wait for it, wait for it..... ahhh. got it!:mrgreen:

Also - for what it is worth, I vac out my FEC-100 after every cook. I know others that have had issues with dust settling in around the starter element, not allowing proper airflow... and vac-ing regularly solves that issue too.

I can't wait to check out your 500 this weekend Jeff. I've been thinking about getting a 500 to mount on my concession trailer - since I have a gaping hole there now that the Traeger Smokehouse that used to live there is visiting it's relative at Randy's!!

Bobby has one on his lot ready to sell me... I just want to see one cooking. I have heard mixed reviews on the 300.

I burn all pellets out of the auger and vac mine after every cook.
Eliminates any chance of pellets expanding in the auger and gives a clean firepot for the next cook.
Easey Peasey.
