Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

enamelled cast iron dutch oven?

For a Lodge, enameled (easier cleaning) i think that is a pretty good price!
I'd like a couple of those but have way to many CI already!

I have both of the lodge enameled cast irons i got my fiance at Christmas. We love em. They have em at walmart or u can get em from amazon. i got both the 3qt and the 6qt for around 80 bucks total. i would recommend em.

I you guys are looking for enameled cast iron, check out TJ Maxx or Marshall's. In their home section they usually have various sizes of enameled dutch ovens for about that price. If you have one of these stores near you you would at least save on shipping.

One point of note, the traditional cast iron Lodge products are still made in the US (South Pittsburgh, TN), but the enameled stuff is being made in China.

I'd like to have an enameled oven, but I am not going to give Lodge any encouragement to move any more production to China. I'll bite the bullet and spend the money for a Le Cruset first. While not being made in the US, Le Cruset is at least made in a non-communist country that isn't a major competitor for US manufacturing.

I like Le Creuset or Calphalon. If you want the Lodge, it's the same price at Target. If you local store has it in stock it would save you on the shipping.

I have a 6 quart Le Creuset oval that I simply love. Wife picked it up at Marshall's for much less than full price. Can't say enough about enameled cast iron.

Mine is red.

I would get a larger size, but they are quite expensive

Why make 6 quarts of chili/jumbalya/short ribs when you can make 10 quarts or more

I really like the Lodge cookware as well. My local Walmart has that same Dutch Oven for $45, so you could save on shipping.

My 6 quart dutch oven is a generic, old fashioned black cast iron that I got for $15 at Harbor Freight. It was a camping oven, so I used a Dremel and cut the 3 legs off, and ground the bottom smooth. It is one of my favorite cooking vessels for soups, stews, cornbread, etc.

If you don't have a cast iron dutch oven, you need one. Le Creuset is the best if you can afford it, but Lodge is good stuff too. I didn't know about the Made in China for their enameled, so I guess that would be a personal decision.

I got my wife the Lodge like that and a 11 inch enameled skillet to go with it for around $100 from Cabelas. They have them in the blue and red as well as the brown. She's now bugging me for some of the other pieces.

If you were to have 1 enameled DO, what size would you get and would it be round or oval?

The enameled stuff looks great, but I would have a hard time ignoring my dutch ovens that already live here! Heck, I even have some stuff that's over a century old! I would go with Lodge, as they are the last here in the states, even if this particular model is made in China.

I have a red round Le Creuset 6 qt. Love that thing! Staub is a brand that they sell here a lot too and I see they have it in the US too, so that might be worth checking out too.

I've got a 6 qt. Staub oval dutch oven in red and love it for making beans.

I've also got one of the Lodge 3qt. covered skillet in red too.
I like it for making roux. It also sears meat really nice and then you just deglaze and reduce for sauce.

I got lucky on the Lodge, I was cruising through the clearance section at Wally World and saw it.

I think it was priced wrong because I got it for $9.00!!:biggrin:
