• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Yup, it's the new kid .... Lucker with a bottle of charcoal lighter and a match! 8-)

Being that all began as The "Bandera" Brethren, I thought I would take a look at the latest Char-Broil version of the Bandera. I sure hope the New Braunfels version was of a better quality! Geez Louise.... Meaning no dis-respect, but this current version is throwing good money after bad. Those of you who started with a Bandera and have since moved on to other pits......I can understand why. Of course, the $179.00 price at some Wal-Mart's is probably worth it. Some places on the net are selling at $400.00 to 0ver $500.00. and California Home Depot's are at $259.00.

Guess I'll continue saving for the "Mother" of all Bandera's or something akin.

if you can find a New Braunfels version GRAB IT!! it is the net best thing to the Oklahoma Joes version of 14/inch welded steel.

The charbroil??? IMO, go for the Brinkman Smoke king deluxe.. The charbroil banderas I have seen are questionable..

Our roadmap in qtalk has a side by side comparison thread of the two.

I started with the New Braunfel's Black Diamond. Mine was made in Texas probably 12 - 14 years ago. Easy to maintain, easy to use. Last year I got a Bandera. My Brother in Law is involved in Auto Body Repair and did all the mods. The Bandera is fun and a workhorse. It is not nearly the same quality of the NB Black Diamond. The Bandera is much thiner in steel diameter (made in China). I have to repaint it almost every time it is used. We bought a case of special high heat paint for it this Spring. With the Black Diamond once a year I sand and paint (very little). When I bought the Bandera, I expected the same quality. I love cooking with both. I enjoy the quirks of the Bandera and I will be taking both into competition for the first time in August at The Hudson Valley Rib Festival. We will bring extra Pork Chops as I have read that they sometimes relocate or disappear

Yours in BBQ,

Cliff.

Don't waste your time on a Charbroil 'Dera. Like Phil said, you can get a BSKD that's of much higher quality and works just as well, once you realize it's backwards.

Don't forget to head over to cattle call and tell us more about yerself!
