• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

No, not entrapping your unsuspecting wife in a world of ass odor by farting under the covers and pulling them over her head.

I mean the ones you cook on. BigMista mentioned he uses on for his fried cabbage. Do you guys make use of these? Sounds like you can make anything in one. Do you have one with legs on it, for cooking on coals etc, or one for the home stove. Ever keep one warm by keeping it on your firebox? Any techniques or recipes?

I love my cast iron skillets. I'll bet I would get plenty of use out of a Dutch Oven.

Here's a cool link. Maybe you have seen it.

IN my house...... I call that the Italian Bakery.

My dutch oven however sits in the cabinet under the grill and stores stuff in it..

The surprise dutch oven - rip a silent one, then turn on the light. She will instictively throw the covers over her head. Self inflicted mod.

It might now, but you have used it for chili in the vertical, just as I have.

Beans too.

Those things are awesome. I use the fryer basket too.

Most of the time I use the guardian service pots for chile. I guess that can be considered a dutch oven too, but the real one i have with the legs on it was only used once or twice fro chile, I bought it for Brian to make the cobbler in at bash I.

Ya never told me that or Maybe I was in the trailer again

At our Pig Roast one of the cooks made a butter rum apple pie in a Dutch Oven that was awesome.

And the rice...

I have a Dutch Oven - only used it once when I lazy-Q'd. I placed it over the cast iron turkey fryer burner and filled it with chunks of wood for the smoke flavor. I think Mary get's credit for that, only because it didn't work worth a $hit

Kidding...

ok.. bash II. And TK you putz, ifor lazyQ I put lava rock on the grate over the turkey fryer and then some wood on top of that.. dont be blamin me for your brainfart. :)

To answer your question, I use the dutch oven all the time. It's a great pot for everything, soups, stews, frying etc. Its also a lot of fun to use when camping or in wood fire. It's not Q, it's more like steaming or roasting. I have a few of them in diffenent sizes, with and wiithout legs. IMHO, the legs are really a waste of cast iron. Just make sure you season the pot before you use it.

Resurrected this old post to add. I did my first Dutch oven cook this last weekend while taking my 11 year old camping to get his "below zero" award for scouts. As far as a first cook goes, if I were making hockey pucks for the Dallas Stars I would be a hit! Fortunately, I came back and got better info on how to cook with it, and I will be trying again this weekend. Dump cake. Let y'all know how it turns out.

I make dump cake! Love that stuff. Never made it n a dutch oven though.
