• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I am curious, of those of you with gassers, do you turn the propane valve off every time you use it? I don't and never have, but I noticed that my dad and a couple of my buddys do. Am I the outcast here or am I the normal one?(Questionable either way!) All right guys, please help me put this one to rest. Thanks.

Off, Always! Standard saftey procedure to secure any fuel gas at the primary valve when not in actual use.

Turn that sucker off, every time, and check it to make sure.

The weak link on a gasser is the rubber hose. A crack in the hose, a hungry squirrel, a dog that likes to chew stuff, etc. can cause a leak. I always turn off the valve at the tank between uses.

Yeah, I kinda thought about the safety aspect of it. I am pretty lazy though! Where my tank is, there is no access by dogs or animals, but I understand a hose could still leak. Hmmmm.

Well...I have my built in gasser plumbed into the house. You know how many times I have cranked all eight burners on high to burn off the crap post cook and then forgot about it for a day? or even two?

Then Momma gets the bill....

don't really use the gasser anymore, unless it's an emergency!

but the worse part (if there can be a worse part other than a fire)
is if the hose or the valve on the grill fails, you will be standing there with a plate full of raw food and no flame!

i guess you could rub a few sticks together then

:!: ALWAYS CLOSE THE TANK VALVE AFTER USE:!:

When you go refill a fresh tank because you left one burner on and thought it was off.
You get the idea.

When I am done cooking I shut the tank off while the grill is still lit. That way it burns off any propane left in the hoses. I keep the tank off in case it gets knocked over.

Thats how I do it as well. Including my gas assist on my Klose Pit.

I dont have one anymore, but I closed it after each use, also by shutting off while burners are on.

I'm plumbed to the house natural gas and always close the supply valve before I turn off the individual burners. Also, any time i look out my kitchen window I can see if the supply valve is on or off. That's the way my daddy did it so that's the way i do it too.

Propane bottles are purty safe but no matter what the use, turn that gas bottle off when finished. Don't depend on that little valve at the appliance. Bleeding the line is recommended, although my buddies with RV's say it's okay to keep the line to the fridge pressurized because of the regulator.

I bleed the line on my long weed burner (with a 15' hose & no regulator), I can shut the valve at the bottle and still have at least a minute of burn time on the torch.

My gas grill took a chit about a year ago. Ive been all charcoal ever since so thats why I voted the way I did.

But when I did use my gasser, I left the valve open all the time. Never had a problem.

Off most of the time. I do forget sometimes though. But honestly, I haven't used the gasser for anything more than lighting charcoal in so long.

Gas valves like electrical switchs can and do fail. No scientific basis here, but a lot of years riding a fire engine as a boss. Hell ive had gasoline pump nozzels fail me. Got a gasoline bath as well.
Anything mechinal can and will fail. You just have to be prepared and you really must use common sense.
Brothers.........I dont ever want to hear of another propane explosion here or anywhere else in this country.
If your done using it.........please just turn it off.
Saftey is always being rammed down our throats. Please just use common sense. Like if you open a door...close it.
If you turn on a lite........when your done using it.....turn it off.
Dont be dialing up your cellphone when driving.
Sure as hell dont be textmessaging on ur cellphone while driving.
Basic common sense would end most of lifes problems.
