• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Received a DX2 for Christmas. Can't wait to mess around with this thing. A few questions...

I usually don't use a water pan in my WSM.. Do you recommend using it with the DX2?

Any issues with Kingsford Blue? I'm wondering about ash buildup restricting airflow.

Do you turn it on as soon as you add your coals and put the WSM together? Or do you wait until the temp gets close to where you want it before turning the fan on and closing the other intakes?

I always use a water pan (sometimes with water, sometimes not) so that I am not cooking direct. I would recommend a water pan or some other heat deflector as the probes for the DX2 don't like real high heat. Kingsford Blue is fine. I get my pit up to temp and then turn on the DigiQ. A couple tries and you will have it nailed as it is an excellent product.

Ah, should have specified... I always have the water pan in the cooker, just usually leave it empty. Thanks for the response!

I do not use water in my 22 WSM. It is one more variable I do not have to maintain or worry about. I utilize a foiled terra-cotta saucer with my DX2, and it works great.
Kingsford blue works just fine. I built a taller charcoal ring with a rolled piece of #9 3/4" flat expanded metal, to increase air flow and capacity for increased burn time.
Good luck and enjoy.

Love my dx2. I run kingsford or Stubbs with an empty water pan and have no issues.
