• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Didja know?

Yep ,They had a lot of waste wood left over from building the early cars and need away to cut down on waste. There fore charcoal came about. Which came 1st ? charcoal or a weber grill? LOL

Kingsford, MI (in the Upper Penninsula) was the site of a Ford Motor Company factory which built wooden station wagon bodies beginning in 1931. During World War 2, Ford built a glider factory which manufactured more than 4,000 wooden frame Waco gliders for the US military. Scrap wood from the Ford factory was used to make charcoal. That operation was the foundation of the Kingsford Charcoal company.

The Model T's used a bunch of wood as frames in the body panels. Henry had custom specifications for all the pallets used to ship parts to FoMoCo. They tore down the pallets for the framing and the excess from this process is what became charcoal.

One of Henry Fords most famous quotes about the Model T was "They can have it in any color as long as it's black"

My understanding is he, always a pennypincher, looked at the scrap wood & sawdust laying around and said this cant go to waste, and put Kingsford (a relative) in charge of finding something to do with it....

Gotcha – so he operated on the same principle as I do with my T-shirt drawer.

Ford also made charcoal grill and sold them at their dealerships.

We have a Ford dealership here that gives away (?) a tailgate grill with each new F150 sold. I guess there is some history to this. :thumb:
