critters eating my wood

Here are a couple of pictures of some larva I chased out of a piece hickory. It isn't a major problem, I just am curious if anybody can get a positive ID on this thing... They burrow through the wood leaving a real fine trail of "saw dust" behind them.

It didn't adversly affect the ribs... Hell it was big enough it could have been an appetizer... Kinda like some U10 shrimp - mmmmm.

Thats a House Borer beatle larvae. I see them in here not so much in the firewood, but under the bark of the stumps i use for splitting. Think they lik the damp wood thats in contact with the ground.

Those lil bassards will kill the hickory too. Thats bad unless you want the hickory for smoke wood. My dad had 4 large hickories in his back yard. 3 died and when we cut into the dead trees we found those things under the bark. Bunches of em. Not sure what to do to get rid of em.

Just be careful to properly cage them elf slugs when they get too big
