• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Just loaded Auto Sketch on my puter. It's a poor mans CAD program, was thinking I could plot some of the mods and what ever else floats your boat into a drawing that would make sense. It might help guys like me that are more of a stinker than a thinker. So see I don't just tripe all the time. Let me know your thoughts.

Did you load it on your laptop? The red one with "Etch-a-Sketch" on the top?? :D

Actually, it sounds like a good plan. Having some of the stuff "to scale" would help. I know the template for the baffle was a good idea.

Chad where have you been ?

You have more Lap and Top than I so guess we wil have to use yours. ;-)

I'll borrow the laptop from my PHB (al a Dilbert). Just don't turn it upside down :D

I've actually been pretty busy lately -- we're finally doing some PC udpates at work (project through January) and I've been catering some things up at the church.

Had pork loin for 100 a couple weeks ago and I'm doing a Christmas themed menu for about another 100 first weekend in November (kickoff for a fundraiser). Then I have dinner for a couple hundred in mid November.

can you cad a balloon knot, for that is where these mods have been going

Bill, careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

I still want that double-sided Bandera mod, but built Klose size and quality. We need the dimensions of Phil's firebox and vertical chamber to start:

Half inch steel firebox, access door on top, heat dampers on the front (maybe also on the rear). Openings on left and right side of the firebox leading into each of the 20x20x32 (think that's the size of the BYC vertical) cook chambers made from 1/4" or 3/8" steel. Each opening from the firebox to the cook chamber will have a heat baffle and a closing mechanism to completely shut down one side when not in use. We need very heavy gauge cooking racks that can slide out without falling out, and a equally heavy gauge shelf around the sides and front of the unit. This unit will weigh as much as the BYC, and would serve better if portable (traaaiiiiilllllleeeerrr).

Time stamp on this one is 9pm, and I have no recollection of writing it.

But I am pissing in my pants reading it today.

Want I should go to New York and measure the son of a bitch ? 8)

I ordered a Klose catalogue that never came.

Phil, your auto catalog mod that you did for Dave ain't working for POOPIE.

I want the BYC without the long middle chamber. al'a a Klose Bandera

Phil says they got one, but I still ain't got no cataloge.

I'm a few years off from that though, so it can wait.

so are you guys gonna try to build your own smoker ?? ?

or will you draw out what you want then send it to Klose ?

I don't think Brian's Etch a Sketch will make it all the way to Klose.

And it took me 4 months to make a Pinewood derby car for Cub Scouts, so this would be an all lifetime project for me.

Greg can build one though.

I have a friend here locally who wants to build my cooker real bad. He does excellent work with steel and I imagine he'll do it for a reasonable price over material costs. While I have the $$, I'm pretty happy with my current cooking toys and would rather wait to have this thing built when I move to No. CA where it will be more permanent. For now, I'll just keep mulling it over.

How much you paying this guy to call him a friend ?

i dont know bout the two sided bandera look

i've got one of thoes charcoal baskets in mine that burns in an "s" pattern but the first time i tried to use it the whole basket lit at once (later realizing that it was the way i lit it) i lit it on the vent side not the smoke chamber side
so when i tried again i lit the side next to the smoke chamber and it worked great held 250 for bout 5-6 hrs the reason was the fire had to travel against the wind that flowed through the fire box instead of flowing with the wind

so if you have a smoke chamber on both sides then you'd have to vent it under thesmoke chamber on both sides ?wouldn't you ?

Seems that your getting in thermodynamics or something else that I'm unknowledgeable about. The burning method you're describing is what Bill calls the logical method (aka minion). I hadn't thought about that method at all, but why would it matter? I'm just thinking about a simple fire with some wood splits in the middle of the firebox, maybe (or not) with a fuel basket. Maybe I don't understand the point. Your firebox dampers are on 1 side of the box and that's where they'll stay unless you make new ones. The double sided "bandera" will also have dampers on the firebox - just not in the current position. Air travels through the dampers into the firebox regardless of damper location. If you're looking to prolong a burn with a 'minion' method, it seems you would light your 's' or whatever shape opposite of the damper to the far side of the box. Minion or not, why wouldn't the resulting heat travel through the baffles on each side of the firebox into each cook chamber and out each smoke stack? Depending on several factors you could probably experience different temperatures in each chamber, but hopefully negligible differences.
