competition stats

would anyone happen to have any stats, such as how many contests are held nationwide annually? how many teams compete annually? and how many spectators attend competitions nationwide annually. if not, could someone point me in a direction where i could get such info? thanks

Good luck Phil... I doubt there is anywhere that has consolidated info for all sanctioned and unsanctioned events

However, per KCBS ,In 2006 there were 223 sanctioned contests..


Here's my guess : Assuming KCBS makes up 1/2 of all contests each year (accounting for other sanctioning bodies like MIM, IBCA, MABBQA, NEBS, FBA, etc) and assume there are 500 contests in total annually with an average of 25 teams per contest and more than half of those teams compete multiple times , I would say including backyard teams, 5,000 teams would be in the ballpark. Although, unofficial, the BBQ team database on a certain forum, shows 3837 KCBS teams alone (which I am sure quite a # of are obsolete and outdated).

Just curious - Why would you possibly need this info ???
