In the market for a comp chicken smoker/grill. I currently use a Assassin 28 for the other 3 meats, and want people's opinion on a chicken smoker. Was looking at a Green Mountain pellet pooper. Thoughts?

I use my Yoder Ys640 for chicken. But also going to be practicing chicken in the off season on a gateway drum.

I'm intrigued by Lambert's Red Box Smoker.

Currently bringing a 400lb smoker that has basically become a glorified chicken cooker. Would be nice to cut 300lbs of trailer weight.

Based on the original Backwoods Patio. I think it would be a done deal with a guru adapter

Weber kettle, chargriller akorn or a drum will all work fine.

I've never used an Assassin. But, my gravity fed has a diverter plate at the bottom and at 260 it's plenty hot on the bottom rack for chicken. Have you tried running the smoker without water? It took me a while to figure out a system for me to cook all 4 meats on one cooker. The less I have to bring to a contest the better.

I saw one of Mark's Red Box Smokers in person this weekend. It looks like a great little smoker for the backyard but had never thought of it as a chicken cooker. Really good idea. :clap2:

For the price you can't hardly beat it!

I use my akorn for my chicken and my ss-1 for everything else.

A Rec Tec Mini would be a good choice for a pellet smoker or you can go with the full size RT-680.

We use an 18.5" WSM with a Guru attached for chicken. It works like a charm!!

Same here, but I just got a Rec Tec Mini and it may become my chicken cooker. Testing and time will tell.....

I can use my Humphreys Pint for a whole comp, but I have always done my chicken on a pellet pooper. Currently I have the small GMG Davy Crockett and it is outstanding for yardbird. I like having a pellet grill for this in particular, but also in case I an chasing the big meats and need to bump them.

We use the green mountain grills Davy Crockett to cook chicken thighs, and it's been fantastic. Really set and forget. It holds temperature and cooks much more evenly than my larger Green Mountain Grills Jim Bowie.
