I've seen people put coleslaw on a pulled pork sammi before. I've even tried it and it isn't too bad.
But today I had a guy order slaw on his Brisket.
Just don't seem right to do to brisket.

Vote now.

Brisket should ONLY be served sliced, and without sauce. No exceptions!

..except sometimes with sauce on the side.

or in brisket chili.

or cubed and done as burnt ends.

or pulled and on a sandwhich.

or ...

...you get the idea. I have never had slaw on a brisket sammich before, but i might try it as a change of pace some time. Should never be standard fare, but do what ya like.

Im sure it might be good, but I will stay with slaw on the side thank you. Slice brisket all by itself.....ok, sometimes with jal or onions and pickles.

! was in this BBQ joint in Seattle one day and I'm waiting for my order and this guy comes in and orders a "Hook-up". The guy at the counter asks"WTF is that?" and I'm straining to hear what it is but they get into an argument and the guy storms out of the place. My order of spares arrived, tasted like they were boiled in sauce and my son's brisket "sammich" came with some creamy slaw on it and he barely touched it. When I made some slaw for a party last Summer he told me not to put any on his plate as he still had nightmares from that place!

I don't like cole slaw, so I voted against it...

I made the following brisket sandwich with leftover slices over the summer. Pretty sure it was here that someone made the recommendation to try a while ago, which i did....

Leftover brisket slices topped onion rings, melted provelone cheese on a toasted garlic roll/bread... I might have even added some BBQ sauce to it, I don't recall.

That was real good stuff..

I like slaw on my pulled pork but never consider the idea of using it on brisket. Can't see it myself.

Mesquite BBQ (in Mesquite, TX) makes a great sammich called the "Manhandler" which is brisket and sausage on Texas toast. Good chit, Maynard.

Yuk!!!!!! Just the sound of putting Cole Slaw on a Brisket Sammich is revolting!

I can't stand the smell of coleslaw, and the thought of eating it on anything is fairly revolting.

I'm pretty much meat and taters with some bread thrown in to round things (like my belly) out.

Vinagar based or mayonaise based cole slaw? That would make a difference to me....I love vinagar based cole slaw on pulled pork, don't see why I wouldn't like it on brisket then....

I like cole slaw on a pulled pork, IF I MADE THE SLAW. But would only serve it on the side on brisket. My slaw has a hint of white pepper (ok, so it's more than a hint), mayo (only hellmans) based and not sickingly sweet like some. Since joining this site i always suggest sauce on the side and slaw on the side. Taste the meat, dress it if you need to, but its better naked.

I've never had a sammi, so I don't know how to answer...

But I'd serve cole slaw on a sandwich if someone wanted it... I just don't know if I'd do that by default. Kind of like sauce... put it on the side and let them do what they want.

I love brisket - and I love cole slaw.

I would keep the slaw on the side. Why hide a great slice of brisket with anything at all? Plus, once the slaw is on the sandwich, it's committed. With it on the side, you could try a small fork full on the next bite to see if you like it. If you don't then you can go back to straight up brisket.

if theres aujus handy, i have a tendancy to eat the brisket out of the sandwich, then eat the bread seperatly.. usually ask for the bread soggy... so for my tastebuds.. even the bread is a side dish.. no slaw on the brisket, but on the side i can do.

Never tried coleslaw on a brisket, pulled pork is a different story. depending on taste, I have tried both vin. and mayo based. Preferred the mayo. I have a very good way of dressing a pulled pork sammi. A little extra effort but well worth it.

I think there should be a middle of the road choice for the poll. I really like my slaw on bbq beef sandwiches made from chuck roasts. My slaw is slightly vinegary and loaded (I mean loaded) with black pepper and I think it goes great. Brisket? Same flavors, so why not? Personally, I prolly wouldn't do it but I wouldn't be looking for a rope if one of my guests did it.
