• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I've heard two thoughts one individual never cleans and another cleans after every cook, I've found that if I don't clean mine in some time I get crunchy chared on my meat, and I've found some people like that crunch, what do guys and gals think.

I agree with you. I always clean mine. I don't need crunchy chicken on my tender beef.

I hit my grates quite well each time I start a smoke session with the wire brush and a spray of PAM.....its the REST of the smoker that is , uh....less than spic and span.

Hey Mark, I just installed the Brethren Auto Grill Cleaner Mod

I clean the WSM before every session and at least soak the grates in soapy water - cleaning them when I get the chance.

The Kingfisher baffle gets a scraping out every now and then, the cook grates/shelves get cleaned before every session either with a pressure washer (when I can skank one - it's on my list of things to buy) OR Greased Lightning and wire brush.

I will do a burn-off with my weed burner as needed. For daily cleaning the wire brush works but it always seems to splatter me as well, so I came up with this $5 fix. I cut the tongs off a BBQ fork and use it as a scraper for the crusties.

Grill Cleaning

I never clean the grill. I let Spice do it!!!:-D

He cleans it after each use.

Smokers, i put the grates over the fire for a few minutes, then wire brush them off.

Grill, they get cleaned on the preheat with a wire brush.

On thge expancded steel grates, i have found that cleaning them after cooking made them rust(unless you oil them, whcih i didnt do).. so leaving the oils form the meat protect them a little bit till next use.

ok, yeah, they may get a little fuzzy during the hot months, but that burns right off and is gone with the wirebrush and hose.

.

I took the finish right off my WSM grates using steel cleaners. Works great on the porcelain grates, but stick with those plastic scrubbers on steel

I clean mine over the fire or with weed burner then brush it. If you leave the previous cook on the grill/grates they won't rust. Never clean the pit except to scrap out the gunk at the bottom from time to time. Never rusts inside at all.

Good idea Third Eye has on that large fark (um... fork). I like large old paintbrushes for cleaning up ash and general 'feather dusting'

This oven?

That's the microwave. It's a pain to clean, especially at 2am on New Years Day. I actually used Clorox kitchen wipes on the inside and grates and it worked pretty darn well.

Keep it clean
Keep it hot and
Keep it oiled

For the Lang I usually use the weed burner and a wire brush - everything else its just the wire brush.

I scrap the grates before every use. Power wash grates maybe five times a year and spray with pam or oil after to keep from rusting. I power wash the hole smoker two times a year or more if it gets real dirty from big catering gig's.

I clean the grates during the pre-heat, but the chamber itself needs some attention...oh boy.

I have this same same grate cleaner, but looks to be a different style. I will post pics someday.

What I do is start the Traeger on high, spray down the grate with Pam and then wait a few minutes and hit it with the wire brush.
After a contest or a big cook what I have done with success is put the grates in a large trash bag and spray the snot out of the grates with Easy Off. Let them sit over night and then take them out and wipe them down, works great.

... if you don't have a Billy Bar you're missn' out!.. Really!! Bought one for a gift and one for myself and it is pretty dang good.

BGE or Traeger grates, it's the first thing I reach for whether in the middle of a cook, just after, or waaaaay after.
