Last week or so, someone mentioned smoking on berry wood. As I recall, the OP was talking about blueberry, but someone mentioned Blackberry, too. So Friday I brined a whole chicken, seasoned it up yesterday morning, stuffed it with the usual garden herbs (lavender, sage, chives, savory). Meanwhile, I went out to the blackberry bushes and cleaned out some of the old canes, cut them into 6" lengths and soaked them. Fired up the kamado in the afternoon and set the chicken on a can of apple juice over an indirect fire with the blackberry thrown in. Family review came back as the best chicken I ever made. So much so that I'm doing a by-request repeat performance tomorrow. Pics to follow.

And here I've been throwing the damned things away for all these years.
