Charcoal Basket???

I have several of these in storage and I was curious if anyone has tried to use something like this for a UDS charcoal basket. There would need to be some modification done to the bottom and a few more holes drilled in, but for free it might be worth it. Diameter is right at 16" at the top.

That's what I was thinking would be the big modification. I have one that broke (riser ring at the bottom) so I may throw some charcoal in and drop it in the barrel to see how it does. At this point I don't need a new basket, but curiosity might lead to some experimentation.

I'd expect the ash build up will choke out the coals.
