• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Big Al says my basket is shipping. If I can go 3-4 hours with less fire tending on occasion I'd think I'd died and gone to BBQ Heaven. This may be just what I've needed. I'll get a couple bags of Kingsford and do some test runs and report back later. Phil, or anyone else with experience with Al's fabrication, don't hesitate to chime in with hints for someone with impaired basket-keeping skills.

Congrats! If it's built like the one I saw a B2 you'l get much long use from the basket.

Congrats Mike.

Phil can give you some pointers, but it is a great design that you should play with.

Forcing the fire to burn back to the door (versus towards the firebox) should geve the longest burns.

Phil got me a Klose basket for Christmas, so I'll add any advice I can to basket using, once it gets here.

Thanks. From what I've read, it may just outlast the firebox!

Yeah right.. its with the xmas card and the BYC I sent.

Mike, you'll have to experiment with the divider. Start with it by leaving abpout an inch and a half apart.(maybe a litttle more). Fill the damper side with unlit kingsford(kinsford ONLY) and some chunks. Then dump about a heavy 3/4 of a lit chimney on the other side. Shut down the firebox damper. You should start to light the second side after about an hour:15. Last one I got near 5-6 hours running at 250.

Well, with all the new vehicles and all, we just figured Phil was in the Holiday Spirit(s) 8)

In all honesty, Als basket with the rebar bottom will probably outlast the Klose basket with the heavy gauge expanded steel bottotm. The Klose is an "S" burn basket, Als is a divided basket which I think is a little more versatile. Dimension wise, they are about the same. so for the $$, Als gets best bang for the buck.

Next experimaent with als basket was to to a 2/3 - 1/3 split, with large 2-3 inch gap. Fill BOTH SIDES unlit, then dump a lit chimney on top of the 2/3 side. After about 3-4 hours, if the second side didnt light yet, put a few hot coals on top of the unlit side to start that as a backup burn.

Did I miss something here... I never got any notice Al was ready to ship baskets... I've got money to send and I think he has a basket with my name on it..Al... you out there...

Al builds one hell of a basket. Farking steel rod bottom. Awesome.

I have to agree. At B1 we never used the Bandera to my recollection. At B2, because the Klose was already full, Harry L, Chi-Bill and I loaded the farking Bandera with a brisket, turds, and who knows what else. Al's fire box installed. What a frigging machine it was.

Basket Orders

Bandera-Brethren Charcoal Basket Orders.

Hello Brethren,

If you want a Bandera-Brethren Charcoal Basket, just order one. Here is a status update.

I received four checks that included shipping cost. So those four Brethren got their Baskets shipped and will have them by this week end 1/9/04.

I shipped 4 baskets, last Friday (1/02/04) in boxes that I had to buy.

The shipping box is 18Lx16Wx7H inches and has an UPS weight of 37 lbs.

The actual shipping cost changes daily based on UPS charging a "fuel surcharge". My shipping "from zip code is 80138" if you want to estimate your shipping charges, go to www.ups.com and click on shipping charges. Select UPS counter rates and regular ground rates. Or send me your street address with your zip code and I will do it for you.

The shipping cost has gone up since Friday (1-2-04) but the four I shipped out averaged $23.55. The low was $20.00 (CA & MO) and the high was $29.08 (MA).

Steel price went up and I forgot about the cost of the box, tape, packing materials and welding rods, so the price of the Baskets is $85 plus shipping.

I will accept your personal check for $85 + shipping to your zip code. If you want to use PayPal, add PayPal's 2.9% fee to your total cost of $85 plus your shipping.

My PayPal account is [email protected]

Mail your checks to:

The basket is an adjustable height unit with dual independent and removal dividers for tuning your fire burn times. The dividers can be as close or as far as needed based on your sea level altitude to increase or delay the self-lighting of the coals on the right side of the basket. Designed and tested here in CO at 6,700 ft and in NY at sea level by members of http://www.bandera-brethren.com/index.php

The basket arrived today, a day early! The packaging worked well, the carton was in good shape when it got here. I gotta tell you, this thing is built like a battleship. We've been enjoying -0 wind chill for 2-3 days now, and it won't be that much warmer this weekend so it will be a good? time to start a series of tests. I gotta get something out of the freezer, I'll be cooking with large quantities of beer and Kingsford and snow this weekend!

Put in an order, you won't find anything else like Al's Made in America Basket!

I'll take notes and try to post some results next week.

Somebody left one of the quads on my doorstep yesterday morning. It may be next week before I can get a fire going in it. I'll report back.

Thanks Big Al.

Al
Got my basket Friday. WOW that thing is heavy.
With the sub-zero weather we are having, I didn't open until sunday, This thing is so well made it will live thru many Bandera's.
Can't wait to use it. I will report back.
Thanks Al Great job, if anyone is thinking about making a charcoal basket, don't waste your time you can't make one any better for the money.
