Carolina Roadtrip

OK so I am hitting the road tomorrow after work on a weekend road trip down the 95 corridor I'm planning on going from here in NY to somewhere south of DC stop for the night, on to Fayetteville NC Thursday and Friday then North Myrtle Beach Friday-Saturday and back home Sunday.

I need help with two things, I'm on a mission to find great biscuits and gravy and great fried chicken. Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated

Can't help you with the Chicken, but down here, there's a Family Chain Restaurant called Biscuitville, they're everywhere it seems, that serves mighty fine Biscuits and Gravy.
In fact, that's what I had for Breakfast this morning...:clap2:

I never found anything to write home about in FayetteNam. I had some decent stuff, but nothing extraordinary. Email sent to friends to see if things have changed.

For great fried chicken, check out some of the local mom and pop restaurants along your way. In my experience, these have great Fried Chicken. You will be about 80 miles from me.

Smithfield BBQ and Chicken has some good chicken, depending on where you are at and who is cooking at the time. Also if you are on I-95 at exit 78 (I think, it is the Benson exit) got to try the Mule City Grill. Cheap food, but good food.

Yeah I'm all about the Mom and Pop's, I'm a street food kinda guy. I was hoping for the locals to tell me about one or two I should visit.

It will always be known as 'The Nam, or FayetteNam' to a lot of folks. It's a name that will stick. I got there in the late 80's. Some things had changed, some things, hadn't, and some things change back....

Smithfield was pretty good hit it up today for lunch. Going to try to do the Mule City Grill on the way home, saw the sign for it.

I never heard anyone that lived there or was stationed there call it anything else, and it always had a reputation as kinda the wild west. I had two friends that both grew up on Bragg when I was at Campbell who told me the reason they were in the 101st is because the wanted to get away from FayetteNam. 2 maybe 3 years ago I was at my MIL's in SC and caught some show on about how they had turned the city around and it had put the wild days of the past behind it. I have no clue how much of any of that is true, this is the first time I have been here.

Bennigans used to get exciting back in the day:laugh: I can say this..... If there was no such thing as a hurricane, I could be happy living in that area. As for the friends from the 101...consider the source....IT IS THE CHOKIN CHICKEN I never served a day in that unit, or the 82nd....which is known to many as the DEUSCHE! I've got no dog in that fight, and mock each equally.

You need to walk around downtown and ask for directions to the Flaming Mug......

Another Fighting Camel? I was at Campbell 87-91. It's always been Fayettenam to me too. Never found good que there...we always seemed to end up around Rick's Lounge. :tape:

it might be to late for you but the double tree inn in fayetteville had a great breakfast buffet with real good busciuts and gravy! also grits and potatoes and peppers!
