• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Cant believe what people throw out

I'm driving along last night and I see something burried in a trash pile. Circle back... Oh yes, A Weber performer. three mins later it was loaded in the back of my truck. Sadly the owner said someone beat me to the lid by a few minutes. it was burried up to the charcoal grate with ash and the one touch system is rotted out but otherwise in great shape!

I need to figure out how the fill valve works on the tank... It has some sort of quick disconnect.

Nice find!

Around here no one will fill that style tank any more, so mine sits empty.

$10 says it was a guy/gal who just finished making a new UDS and needed a lid..:biggrin1::biggrin1:

One memory as a kid growing up, on the night people set out their trash the whole family would load up in this beat up van we had and drive around the neighborhoods to find stuff people would throw out for trash! I couldn't believe some of the stuff people throw away. This is a perfect example. People don't set out trash along side of the road here or I probably would dig through people's trash as an adult LOL

Isn't that a standard 20# tank? I recall that there were some old ones without overfill protection (or some similar problem) that can't be refilled but I never heard of a problem with standard 20# tanks. Educate me, please.

I've rehabbed many old performers like this. It's a 5 pound tank. The problem on them is that the tank also has a quick disconnect so the propane stations can't hook in to them. You can buy an adapter, I'm pretty sure it's [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Camco-59903-Propane-Quick-Connect-Fitting/dp/B007HG7WUQ/"]Amazon.com: Camco 59903 Propane Quick-Connect Fitting - 1/4" NPT x Full Flow Male Plug: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/314HWNEqEWL.@@AMEPARAM@@314HWNEqEWL[/ame] from memory. But then the problem is that the tank might be too old. It can only be refilled for 12 years (I think) from the date of manufacture. After that a propane station can refuse to refill. When you go to refill you might get a guy who doesn't look and doesn't care.

The permanent fix is to get a new hose from Weber that has the current screw on/off fitting. Then buy a new 5# tank if you want it to hang like the original one did. If you're okay with it just sitting down below you can use any normal 20# tank.

Those 5# tanks are expensive - you'd want to get one [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000243QA0/"]Amazon.com: Manchester Tank 10054 5# ACME/OPD Vertical LP Tank: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41nP6H84OYL.@@AMEPARAM@@41nP6H84OYL[/ame]
Worthington also makes a 5# tank but in my experience it doesn't hang right on the oem hanger. You end up having to file down the oem hanger to get the Worthington to fit.

Great find...
