• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I've cooked on my BGEs countless times.

Last night as a load of chicken wings cooked away on the XL Egg at 400 degrees I talked with my son Vincenzo about his acceptance to college and his freshmen year.

Unknowingly I was distracted by the conversation as I am so excited for him.
I continued to talk as I went to check the wings. Forgetting to Burp the Egg I was met with a flash of fire.

Lucky for me I got away without getting burned. I ended up with all the hair on my arms singed along with my eyebrows and the hair on my head.

Please be careful when using your ceramic and all cookers and always pay attention to what you are doing.

I am always super careful but one distraction can be costly.

By careful my Brothers

I've done that. Fortunately for me it was winter and I had a coat on. No hair loss :-D

I'm glad that you weren't burned more seriously!

Thanks again for the repeat warning. Been there myself a few times and worry about any future momentary lapse of reason.

I know exactly how that feels. Burp for sure.
I wonder if anyone who has cooked on a ceramic for any amount of time has not had that happen.
Good to know your ok.

Interesting ceramic phenomena. I've had small ones, nothing big like yours. Glad your just singed.

Burned all of the hair off of my left arm and most of my left eyebrow when I forgot to burp my Egg.

I now burp everything.............even the gasser. :-D

Great topic, I never knew this about ceramics.
Thank you! :thumb:

Yep always when you least expect it...
Good tip!!

Nice Video, but I assure each and everyone that the grill temp does not to be as high as shown in the video for flashback to happen. Have had it on three occasions and have to admit it was my fault on two of these.
Have never had flashback less than 450 deg. but I am not saying it can't happen. Just my personal experience.
Never cooked over 600 and when I did I was careful. Have not cooked at any higher temp. nor plan to.
