• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

building an italian smoker

Hi :-D

I'm an italian boy and I'd like to build a smoker I'd like to open a discussion to ask explanations on how I can make it.

I can't speak american but my girlfriend speaks english but she is too busy with her work and she travels a lot. :oops:
I haven’t enought time to search on internet or in the forum, so I need anyone who helps me to have a summary of the discussion :oops:

I also need you speak with a simple language to understand quickly and youuse a lot of photos to understad the explanations. :oops:


I have some questions:

Are there differences with quality of cooking between a vertical and horizontal?

Are the differences between an horizontal smoker with baffle plate and tuning plates; between an horizontal smoker with baffle plate and tuning tube; and a reverse flow smoker (lang smoker)

I’d like to build a horizontal water smoker in particolar a “lang clone” model. 48 Patio

If you are going to build a true "Italian" smoker, and it's a vertical, it's gonna have to lean...

Norcor got it right. I built the smoker on the compuvices.com site and this is one of the easier smokers to build. The materials are eaily found or substituted and requires few skills beyond welding.(Many others require pipefitters experience and many tools.)Also look at the thread with the drum cooker. Easier still

Although I love my Lang, The UDS would probably be the best way to go, as the materials should be readily available, it is easy to assemble, and it turns out pretty good Q. If you have the time and materials, I would definately build a reverse flow smoker like the Lang, only I would build it bigger than the 48.

I though on this solution but i can't find a 55 gallon food oil drum so I decided to make a smoker using a 35"x24" vertical propane tank
