• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Sammi didn't last long enough to take the picture:lol: I'll try and post one on the next go round.

Looks like you got the color dialed in perfect, and those slices look just right!

Wayne, do you think that this has the same flavor as bacon?

Ive been wanting to do some pork bellies, but around here if you want to try and make your own bacon, ya have to buy a whole case of pork bellies.
The want more money for raw pork bellies, than you can purchase ready made bacon.

Last time I checked, I have to buy an entire case of pork bellies, which the average weight is about 80#. No way I could use that much bacon in a few years.

Just wondering here?

Buskboarded butts or loin taste more like ham to me. Three or four of my books on curing have recipes for bacon, and two small processors here make their own for sale. Home made bacon is really good. Let me snoop around and I'll get some recipes to you.

Thank you Wayne!:biggrin::biggrin:

Agree with ThirdEye, deffinately taste more like Ham or Canadian Bacon. I really like it. Last time I let it soak awhile in a coating of real maple syrup and seemed to give a little added taste.

Very true, when I started slicing I thought I messed up and made ham instead:oops: But once it hit the frying pan and the homestead started smelling with bacon, the kids came running and the BLT building commenced:-D

IMHO the thinner you slice it the more it tastes like bacon, if it gets as thick as a normal thick cut bacon it tastes like ham to me.

edit: If you haven't tried it the thicker cuts make a heck of a grilled ham and cheese sammie

I agree my thicker cuts tasted more like ham, So I made some thin ones and it did taste more like bacon.
