Not sure that is exactly true or not...cattle prices go in cycles with supply and demand. Many feeders are wary of buying calves to feed right now because their price is really high right now...thus leaving them less profit. Yes, the fat prices are up right now (less supply = more demand), but that won't last forever, so many feeders are not filling up their pens in fear of the bottom of the market dropping out while they have $$$$ wrapped up in young feeders.
With that said, our prices are up too...in just about all meat products, not just beef.
Angus briskets at Sam's were about $1.76 last year and they are $1.98 as of last week.
JD's sausage was $2 per 1 lb chub last year... It's now $3.00.
Farmland Thick Hickory smoked Bacon was $2.50/lb and is now $3.25
