What are the brisket prices in your area? Wallyworld here usually has select whole packers for around $1.80 per pound and I have a friend that said he'd be able to get me a case of choice whole packers for $2.10/lb. The regular grocery stores have small flatts upwards of $6.00/lb.

Over here in the Detroit area, super Wally World has packers for $1.86 a lb. Another place I go seems to have raised their prices to $2.99 a lb for a full packer. This is up from $2.39 a lb last summer/fall. Not sure what grade they are. Restaurant Depot has choice angus packers for $2.29 a lb if I recall. It's been awhile since I've been there though. I think choice's were $2.09 there also. This was like 2 mos ago. I hear the meat packers in eastern market in Detroit also have some decent prices on whole packers, but I have yet to make it down there to see what the hype is about.

Up here there is a store selling choice packers for $1.78 a lb same price at Walmart. I have seen a butcher up here selling choice for just under $3 a lb and another selling prime for just over $4 a lb

I spoke with my butcher and they say that they are cutting production and expect a spike in beef prices. according to the wholesale beef markets it is on the rise. I email another butcher friend and she said that they expect prices to go up another $.40-$.60 per pound in the next week or 2.. both said that the cattle producers are fed up with loosing money and are gonna drive prices up...

Up here in New England I paid $5.00 a lbs. at a grocery store for a flat and $1.89 a lbs. at my local butcher for 12 lbs. packers.

Brisket prices are WAY up for some reason. My cost on flats went up to $3.87lb! and whole packers are in the $2.10-$2.20 range. There is no reason they have jumped this high other than supply and demand.

Not sure that is exactly true or not...cattle prices go in cycles with supply and demand. Many feeders are wary of buying calves to feed right now because their price is really high right now...thus leaving them less profit. Yes, the fat prices are up right now (less supply = more demand), but that won't last forever, so many feeders are not filling up their pens in fear of the bottom of the market dropping out while they have $$$$ wrapped up in young feeders.

With that said, our prices are up too...in just about all meat products, not just beef.
Angus briskets at Sam's were about $1.76 last year and they are $1.98 as of last week.
JD's sausage was $2 per 1 lb chub last year... It's now $3.00.
Farmland Thick Hickory smoked Bacon was $2.50/lb and is now $3.25

you make a great point, Im just going by what I was told by 2 sources in 2 different states. I looked up wholesale beef brisket and the site confirmed what the said about it gooing up. for what its worth, I hope they come down.

Friggin Pitmasters series! Like when Hooters started selling wings.

Here in Texas the price can range from $1.39 to $1.99 per lb for packers. The stores sell select and choice for the same price. We also see CAB briskets in the case along with all the rest. Right now in SA they're about $1.89lb.

$5.00/lb for a freshly butchered, local, grass fed, organic, humanely raised whole brisket. My butcher gets a freshly slaughtered carcass every Tuesday.

I think they were $1.86 about a week ago if I recall correctly. I'm heading up today to get some meat from Sam's, I'll post the prices after I get back.

I appreciate the feedback everyone, thank you. I don't know why, but the Sam's clubs in southern Michigan and Northern India only carry flats yet the Wallyworld next door has whole packers.

Bought 4 packers last week...
Wallmart were priced for $1.88 lb

Kroger had sale $1.48 lb.

Bought 4 at Wallmart for $1.48 lb using their price matching policy..:thumb:

Been harder to find choice grade lately, but these were just for a birthday party...:-D

Seems its the same way up here in Lansing Neil.

Did you contact the butcher at your local Sams to see if they could order in a full packer brisket for you?

I cooked Walmart Select $1.88/lb side by side with Sam's Club Choice $1.86/lb. Same smoker, same rub, side by side, same cook. The Sam's Choice was great the Walmart select was flavorless.
