• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Got 37 orders for brisket dinners. Gonna start cooking today for delivery and pickup tomorrow. Brisket, MrsMista's Mac and Cheese, bbq beans, sauce and rolls for $10. Anybody else selling dinners to make cash for contests?

Man that sounds good, maybe I should start!

Hey Bigmista,

After competing last weekend we are now thinking about cooking to earn some cash for the next contest. We have no clue as how to start to do this. Any tips for a guy in Cali?

Make a few flyers to pass around to your friends and family. 1 good BBQ meal = about 5 new sales the next go round. I made a few hundred dollars selling lunches for my Daughter's wedding last year. Ribs are a good starting point, everybody loves ribs. Also hit the restaurant supply stores, and smart and final, to pick up boxes (styrofoam containers) napkins, and sporks.

Lastly, don't forget to drop sample meals by me to give a good taste test.

Make sure you have help. Neil's assembly line goes a lot quicker and easier when I get him organized

Brisket is a harder sell because not many people in Cali are familiar with it. They know more about tri-tip. But brisket has a higher profit margin than ribs or tri-tip. Cheaper cost and more meat per pound. Less orders at first but once they taste your food, they will tell their friends.

Tell your customers no substitutions up front. It will save you a lot of pain in the long run. Take it from someone who knows.

Here too if they knew. THis is small potatoes though. I do have a kitchen to rent if I do big jobs.

Thoses who cater, did you start small by doing stuff under the table? I am damn nervous to sell without the proper reaming by the local govt. Is this something I should worry about? Where would be a good start on learning how to become legal? Thanks.

Sounds great mista and mrsmista!

Jt, I believe my first call would be to my insurance agent. I learned a heck of a lot from talking to mine.

I always look at it as though I was cooking and you came over. Before you got ready to leave you ask me if you can have a plate for "Bob" who could not make it. I don't do it enough to make a living at it, and it is important. NO SUBSTITUTIONS ~ ~ ~ ~

I'll check out both the ins man and the local health dept. I may try and see if some friends may be interested in "donating" some cash for some meat. just to see how it goes for now. Thanks

Well the brisket dinners are done and delivered. The kitchen is halfway clean and I can rest.

You know I couldn't cook 4 briskets and not take any pics for my brethren. Here ya go!
