• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Bass Pro shop has these for $299.00, cheapest I have seen by far, am checking on shipping.
Anyway I would like to know what I should know about one am going to order one to serve as a go between my char-grillers an a custom bandera I am having made.
Isnt there already a thread about these? Thought I remembered one not too long ago.
Thanks
Sean

I gots one, and I love it. Check NorthernTool, they used to have them for $249, and free shipping to a local store.

I got mine for $178 from Menard's, and I love it. I've dubbed it "Darth Smoker", to the point of playing The Imperial Death March after I'd put it together and while wheeling it onto my deck. There's Q porn somewhere on here of my first cook in it. Ribeye steaks that quickly met thier fate on my plate. I've got some pics from last summer of rib tips that I made on it, though I don't remember if I ever uploaded it here...

didn't find them at Northern Tools anymore
have a call in to Rural King for shipping info
Bass Pro cost $63 and will take 5 to 10 days

oh yeah Lowe's catalog price was $469

$575.00 at Amazon, $550.00 from Brinkmann. I got mine at Menards for about the same as jsimonson0 (under $200.00). Menard's is regional though and I don't think they offer shipping.

Be careful with this one.
Mine was welded terribly.
The craftsmanship was by far some of the worst i've seen.
Air leaks everywhere.
Major fuel hog to keep up with the air leak.
The cooking chamber door leaks bad and does not sit flush with box.
I need to take mine to a fab shop and pay someone to tighten it up. Firebox mod, reweld door to box so it fits flush and find a way to make door and box airtight. There are a ton of air leaks into the firebox and thats a bad thing.
You will need to check out everyone's mods for this one and that will help.
I gave up on mine but I may put some work into it after I build my Drum Smoker.
Other than that I guess its OK

I got mine at Menard's about a year ago for $199.00. Every once in awhile they sell for $179.00 or so. Yes, they do have their downfalls as do most things, but for the price it's one hell of a tutor in smoke-ology:roll: . Would I buy one again? Probably not if I had the $$$ to spend, but it's still a good unit to learn on & their are lots of Brethren who can help on the learning curve. Almost any mod for a Bandera will work on the BSKD.

Muzzlebrake, our Qtalk Roadmap has several threads bout the BKSD. OPen the roadmap sticky at the top of qtalk.

Mostlarge, check our mods sections. There are a few good gasket mods you can do to seal up the smoke chamber.

Ouch! I got mine at Lowe's two years ago for $249. Regular price! Honestly, while these are decent smokers and I enjoyed using mine, I cannot for the life of me see why someone would pay $500 for one when you can get a couple of WSMs for the same or less money.

that was what my train of thought was
ordered it from Rural King today $199 plus a $105 for shipping and will get here in about 7-10 days.
that was the cheapest I found.
guy at the store told me they are discontinuing them, only had 20 left in the company.
I figured for $300 it would be an inexpensive introduction to the bandera style cooker

The Imperial Death March ...

Sing this to the tune: "Eat me raw with a flavor straw"

Thats the words. No chit! Regardless, it will bring a big grin to your face everytime you sing it. Try it.

Congrats on the new BSKD Muzzle. After you get that puppy, cake it down good with Crisco to season and make a fire. Take pics and share!

Muzzy-
Download the Bandera mods & have the damper/baffle made now. That way you can install it when you assemble the BSKD the first time. When I had mine made, I told the guy not to drill the holes in it so I could be sure that the Bandera baffle would fit the BSKD. Good luck & good Q'in!:-D

Brauma, thanks. I know nuttin bout this forum thing. We did get indoor plumbing last week. That is really cool. Searched for cattle call and was really lost again.
First comp last year, finished just above mid stream. Was lost there to.
Friend gave me a NB, unused, set outside 2 years. Did the firegrate mod and heat deflector mod, welded broken hinge, tried to clean rust, and looking for a broken small wheel.
Have a brinkman pro and 22 1/2 " weber. LOVE LOW AND SLOW SMOKE!

Try clicking here. Then click on the "New Thread" button on the left towards the top.

Welcome!

Incidentally, I've been wondering about getting a BSKD myself. I have a CharGriller horizontal with a SFB but it hasn't been modified yet. Part of me says to stick with that, do the mods, and work on getting the technique down. The other part of me says "just buy the BSKD, sissy!"  Thoughts?

Figured I'd put this in here seeing as how it's a BSKD review thread as well.

Thanks.

I did just that. Had my Chargriller first, but wanted to try the vertical so I got a BSKD. I like them both and use both for different cooking temps. Got a smok-n-pit too and use it also. Next up is building an ugly drum smoker. May be an egg in my future also. One can never have too many cookers!

I started with the chargriller too. No firebox. Just indirect with a small bed of coals on the side. Great learning experience. I feel like I can cook on almost anything now.

wow isnt it amazing how many of us great minds think alike??lol
I figure that this can be my new toy to play with this year.......
really want a UDS, just dont have the time to do it
