• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Hello guys just found this on craigs list in MN. I have been looking for a WSM but have not been able to find one new or used in the area. Is this unit even comparable? I did a quick search here and did not see a lot about this unit. Any info would be helpful. RIX

RIX, do another search of the forum using the brother's "pet" name for this cooker. ECB [el chepo brinkman]

Yeah.

50 dollars is too much. I bought mine retail for $29.00.

The brinkmann and WSM aren't really in the same league. However, I have had some really good results with my Brink. I have done chicken, butts, and brisket.

the brinkmann doesn't have as much cooking area as the WSM, and the fire control can be finicky.

Yep, thats the El cheapo brinkmann. Sells new everyday for about 30 bucks, so thats no bargain. The GOURMET version is a lot better (still not a WSM, but better than the ECB) and it sells new for 49 bucks.

IMHO keep looking.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll stay away from that one and keep searching for a WSM. I was wondering what ECB stood for.

I, too, started with a Gourmet ECB...made a lot of good que with it once I figured out how to cook with no air controls!! The Minion method came through...

If you can't find a deal on the WSM (I got mine from Amazon when it was on sale with free shipping...they do that a couple of times a year)...getting the Gourmet model Brinkmann would not be a bad option while waiting.

Someone send that guy a response with a link that shows retail value of that ECB. Dude's scalping smokers.

I started on the ECB, too....Never made any mods to mine as I'm a lazy farker, but there's plenty o' helpful info on Randy's site:

Definitely capable of turning out plenty fine bbq......

I did not start on the ECB--actually started on "real" permenant brick and stone pits, doing whole hog, as a kid. But I cooked a lot of q on a ECB in a galaxy far away when I was a cliff dweller with a limited budget, limited space [think Bigmista's balcony is spacious]. I learned a lot cooking on that beast. Definitely capable of turning plenty fine bbq.
Thanks to Brauma for helping me spell definitely the proper way:lol:

I just bought one "Mr. Meat Smoker" ECB on CL a couple months ago. Never used still in the box for $20.(listed for $45.00) Kept it in my garage as back till my refugee ECB from the trash started to fall apart.
Well, that day came last week....

Dude, if you see it and theres cleaning that needs to be done, offer em $25.00.

So what if its Brinkman.

I got one of those for free from a buddy about a month ago. I use it for chicken only. I have been using offsets for so long, learning fire management in the ECB is making me crazy.

Well thanks alot again guys, if I can't find the WSM I want I may pick one of these up new from Menards or something just to get going while I continue to search for the WSM.

I know that DeeZ has won quite a few dollars/awards at competitions using the ECB to cook his chickens. Therefore I would highly recommend them for anyone where a two hour cook is desired.

I actually owned one as my first smoker but never really appreciated how well it could cook until it was gone.

Just to be clear here, the Brinkmann bullet smokers make some fine food, its the $50 for a ECB thats the objection. Nothing wrong with the product just the overcharge!
