Ok you guys from Alabama speak up. I need a bag of raw peanuts in the shell. I can't find them here in Missouri around my area. Anyone interested in sending me a bag? I am craving some Boiled Peanuts and I feel the need to work up a batch.

Can you make them from roasted peanuts? I've heard no you can't but....

Boiled is best done with fresh "green" p-nuts.

Fall time product.

Let me poke around and see if I can find some decent ones now.

We have some in the grocery stores here now[green peanuts that is]. I think they are from second crop, South Florida mod.
IMO, not as good as the stuff grown in Alabama and South Ga.

Also, they are pricey. $3.00 per pound at my local supermarket, have not checked with farmers market, as I usually dont buy these.

And, River City--NO you cannot make boiled peanuts from previously roasted peanuts-That would be akin to making real barbecue brisket from the pot roast your wife cooked last week.

In my opinion, you are also wasting you time trying to make boiled peanuts with dried, in the hull peanuts.

To be real, they MUST be made from freshly harvested, raw, "green" peanuts. This is a fresh produce product that must be refrigerated till used.

My nickle's worth.

Call Texoma Peanuts.

Links in the link section.

I, and others, have gotten raw runners (shelled) year round, so they might have them in the shell too.

Get a bag of regular Cajun peanut in the shell while your at it.

Good stuff

The green peanuts in N. Florida are not in yet. My cousin raises a bunch and I was just talking to him last night.

The Valencia green peanut market on the east coast is dominated by two companies both of which are near my hometown. Both are owned by friends of my family. I am out town and could only find one of their numbers.

Get 'em to ship you a bushel. They freeze great!!! Then during football season you can just pull out a gallon bag and be in hog heaven!!!

I would suggest you ask them when the ones in the Ocala area come in. Then wait about 2 weeks. The price will be about half what it is that first couple of weeks.

BTW... you can get peanuts to boil year 'round. They take green peanuts and dry them. You can buy them in 50 pound bags. You have to soak them for 12 hours or so before you boil them... but they are good. You can get those from Waldron's as well.

Hey Gator, would that other company be Hardy Farms out of Hawkingsville, Ga.? I get peanuts from them all the time. Did a bushel two or three times last year.

Question? If you dry fresh green peanuts, they are not fresh or green anymore, are they?

We have green peanuts at our local Publix for $1.99lb, and I was just thinking that I would really like some boiled peanuts this weekend. However, like stated above, the fall is the best time for green peanuts.

In a pinch, I have used the bagged "raw" peanuts (what Qman was asking about!), and they come out reasonably well, but nothing beats the flavor of true green nuts.

Maybe I've never had them proper. I've had boiled p-nuts, but just didn't get it.

Joe, if you have had boiled peanuts that were made from re-hydrated dried peanuts, you got all there was--not much.

I do not know if I can come up with a proper analogy, but this is close.
How does boiled, grilled ribs compare to properly smoked ones?
apply that to the above.

A lot of boiled peanuts are from re-hydrated nuts. Yes, they are edible. But so is a McRib. Does not mean it is good.

Fresh, green peanuts, boiled in salt water[ the standard is seawater], is a unique experiance. Like the best raw oysters, like perfect sushi, like your first time below the sh......../
you get the picture.

Boiled peanuts are one of the narrow window things, it is either right, or it is all wrong. When it is good, it is wonderful.

A little store where I stop to get my artirey clogging lunches always has a huge bag in the fruit section. They say raw on the bag. Pm me and tell me how much you want and addy.

I'm with you Joe, the only ones I've ever had reminded me of just grabbing a handful of dirt and eating it......hopefully they are intended to taste better than that!

Nope... Waldron's is in a little one light town - Citra Florida.

Last fall I got some from a farm in Albany GA. They were a different kind of peanut... the real big ones they use to roast in the shell. They keep those in the ground much longer than green peanuts to get the moisture content down. I had to soak them for 6 hours or so before boiling but they were darn good. Not as good as Valencias.... but good!!!

When boiled peanuts are done correctly, you will suck on the shells, they are so good! Anyway, did you guys get any peanuts?

We did some this past weekend, and they lasted all of 30 minutes!

Thats where I get mine from....actually about 20 miles from Albany in a little town called Leary. A peanut mill is about all that is in the town. I went to High Scool in Albany and still have lots of relatives there. Agree on the green requirement as I am not a fan of the soaked/pressure cooked "raw" ones. I did just see some green ones in a produce stand here a couple of weeks ago but they are not from around here. I'd say we probably still have at least a couple months to go for local crop.
