• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Maybe I missed a discussion on this but does anyone know what this is? It's listed on the KCBS calendar for May 23-24 in Hartford, CT. The link takes you to some production company but no info on the event. I need something to do in June...

Do you mean LimeRock,CT in May or Harford,CT in June ??

They must have just given the contests a name for the two CT contests. I have not seen applications being posted on the NEBS homepage or other websites yet.

Here the kicker though on Limerock in May... They want teams there on Saturday morning The NEBS Grilling will be on Saturday , Sunday will be other individual contest, And Monday will be the KCBS event ...I was really interested originally but I think it's gonna be a zoo based on the Memorial Day weekend, the location coupled with other events. I'd hate to tie up the entire Memorial day weekend.

Below info is was taken from the NEBS Yahoo message board that was posted a few weeks ago over there...

The two contest in Ct. are on. Both have asked the Governor for Proclamations for State Championships.
On Memorial Day weekend at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT. we will be competing for a projected purse of over $10,000.00 ($2,500. Grilling and $7,500. in the KCBS event.
We hope to be actually closer to $20,000 with sponsorship being worked real hard by the Marketing Dept. from the Park. I will keep you up-dated as this Number is finalized.

Grilling
$2,600.00 projected total
$500. Grand Champion
$250. Reserve Grand Champ

$125. 1st place in 5 Categories
$100. 2nd place
$75. 3rd place
$50. 4th place
$25. 5th place

In the KCBS Event
$7,500 projected total
$2,000. Grand Champion
$1,200.Reserve Grand Champ

In each of the 4 KCBS meats
$450. 1st place
$300. 2nd place
$150. 3rd place
$100. 4th place
$75. 5th place

The 5th category is ANYTHI! NG BUT(NO DESERTS and no KCBS MEATS)
The cost of this part of the events is $30.00 per team Trophies and money to 3 places.

We will be in an area on the inside loop of the track(not the infield or Paddock) but access is over a bridge that closes in the morning to cars.
There will be racing on Saturday and Monday (American GT Series) and an Antique Car Show by Hemmingway Motors on Sunday( Frank it might get noisy)
IThere will be about 10,000 spectators over the weekend.
This year we are limiting the # of teams to 50 This venue has the ability for well over 2! 00 in the future.
They would like to have this event become the one of the largest BBQ contest in New England and will work on prize $ from between $20,000 and $50,000 in the future.
Campers are allowed for a fee ( I don't have the cost yet) more to come on this.
There will be no vehicles allowed in the competition area between 8am and 6:30 pm each day as the roadway becomes a pedestrian walkway between 8am and 6:30 pm.
On Sunday we are going to have 4 categories Wings, BBQ Beans, Country Style Ribs Bone-in, And best KC style Sauce at $25.entry fee for each Category or $75.00 to enter all 4, with 100% of fees being returned as prize money plus we will try to organize a Backyard contest with 2 categories for the race fans to get involved. /! DIV> Preference will be given to those teams that sign-up for the weekend as getting in after 8an on Saturday will be very hard. As always we reserve the right to deny entry to anyone for any reason. and all KCBS Rules will apply unless otherwise stated.
Because of logistics with the park there will be no entries taken after the cut off date.( don't miss this event because you don't get your paperwork in on time)

Here's info on the June event in Hartford.....

The Second Ct. Contest will be held at Gengras Motorcycles (Harley Davidson's location) on June 22nd thru the 24th We will have to limit this event to 25 teams or move it to their other dealership a short distance away
There will be live (music 5 bands) each Day and all kinds of Vendors. We are expecting 5,000 visitors That weekend

There will be a Purse of $2,500. (Projected ) Depending ! on sponsorship. We are working toward $5,000
There will be Grilling with 4 categories Plus an Extra event (optional)on Saturday and the KCBS event on sundae the 4 KCBS meats
The $2,500 from Grengras Harley will be used as prize money for the KCBS event and part of the Entry fees and Vendor fees plus any additional sponsorship will be used for the Grilling Prize money we will try for a $1,000 min. (That's two food vendors fees).we are looking for 4 vendors plus vendors selling sauces and other products.

Limerock sounds as if it could turn into quite an event. It does have the ring of a very large event if it gets going. For the Long Island Brethren it is only a 111 mile drive.

Hmm. That does sound intriguing. East Hartford isn't bad, either. 123 miles, or a nice ferry ride across the LI Sound.

Seems like everyone is going to NH this same weekend...

Did Hartford get classified as a State Championship for certain ?

If so many NEBS teams are going to Merrimack, NH, will this contest get a decent amount of teams ?

I'm considering this one...

I believe East Hartford did get the governor's proclomation, or it's in the works. Application is on the NEBS web site.

http://www.nebs.org/images/stories/ContestApplications/bluesaque.pdf

We're probably going to NH too, but East Hartford is only a half hour from our house. Tempting....

Ted as usual is correct. Primal Meat Smokers is signed up for Lime Rock. I'm thinking of doing Bluesaque as a solo with 2 WSM's and a Weber Kettle. Is that doable? I notice you use 4 WSM's. Ted, do you give lessons? If not competing, judging Bluesaque would appear to be a good option (form available soon).

Cliff

Somebody from NEBS would probably have the answer to that question...

ok...here is what I know. Lime Rock is in May -Memorial Day Weekend, a state championship at the race track. Blues a Que is June (same wknd as Merrimac, NH) at the Harley dealership, also a state championship (I believe).
Both apps are up on the NEBS website. If you have questions...e-mail Vito Marotta - he's the organizer of both of them. His e-mail addy is on there as well.
It seems that lots of teams will be going to Merrimac and lots of others to E. Hartford that weekend, depending on logistics and who else is going where.

Cliff - I think anyone can cook anywhere on 2 WSM's and a kettle. Practice it out first and you're all set.

Smoke In Da Eye - NEBS has events almost every weekend in June. There is supposed to be a brandy new one in Brewster MA the first weekend (application coming soon :> ) then... one of my faves...Peter's Pond, the 15th/16th (Fri to Sat - but you can stay until Sunday if you ask) also on Cape Cod in Sandwich . Then the weekend of the 23rd is Merrimac and E. Hartford, and the last weekend of June is Lake Placid (also one of the best ones!)

We are ALWAYS back-to-back-to-back in June. Makes for a fun month!

Ted's correct that it's official or still in the works ??

Ted's correct that it is official. Vito was one of the speakers at Mike Lee's Championship BBQ Class this past Sunday in New Fairfield, CT. Vito spoke at length about Lime Rock and Bluesaque as well as other events he promotes. It was my understanding that Gov. Jody Rell has signed off on both of them. They therefore could both be CT State Chamionships. Lime Rock is expected to be the larger venue with a draw of 10,000, Bluesaque expected draw is 5,000. Both appear to be well organized and should be good events.

Yours in BBQ,

Cliff

Our first two competitions we used 2 WSM's and a Weber kettle, and took 3rd and GC. It just requires a little planning but it can be easily done. I'd be glad to offer any advice Cliff, just PM or e-mail me.

New Hampshire is limiting the contest to 36 teams this year?
Bluesaque seems like a nice alternative, the music line up looks great!

who said 36? eek....

Email Recieved from Pete,

Hello, You All

It is Easter and time to finalize plans for the New Hampshire State Barbeque Championship.

We are holding it a bit later this year so we can guarantee perfect weather to go with the perfect food !!!

I hope the instruction package will tell you all you want to know, but if not, just email me.

The first 36 checks I receive will guarantee entries. After that, there will be a waiting list in order the checks are received.
(Kerry, I have your check – you are in !!! )

See You in June !!!

Roland “Pete” Petersen

I was really thinking of doing it, but looks like I have another event to go to that would not be good to back out of...

My boss is is also the director of the dept.. decided to invite a group of guys over for "Daddy Day" - which is take your kids over to his house without the moms, let the kids run wild in the backyard and swim in the pool, drink beer and eat like pigs etc...

I think I'm gonna ends up just cooking a few pork shoulders or ribs to bring over for the group.
