• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

BBQ Thermometers

Guys,

I have recently built a smoker and am not real happy with my choice of thermometers. Both which I bought online have produced internal condensation on there first overnight stay (no rain/1 of the thermometers is virtually unreadable). I have used the BBQ brand thermometers (colored red, blue & white).

Can anyone recommend a quality thermometer which has not condensated so much that they have trouble reading the correct temp?

Tom,

I know a lot of folks have bought thermometers from Jay at Spicewine and they've been very happy.

Tel-True are some of the best I have ever seen.

I bought mine from spicewine and have been very happy with it. Not a bad price either.

You can't get much better than this....You can't go wrong as long as your dialed into the Ideal range

Tel Tru makes some very nice thermos, and they stand behind their products. I especially like them b/c they are manufactured in Rochester, NY.

I like the looks of the Tel Tru BQ300 (4"). However, they are not recalibrate-able. This Spice models apparently are, and I would value that capability.

My Backwoods came with a Tru-Tel and it's money ... so far. But like mentioned above, I don't think it's recalibrate-able - at least it doesn't have anything that indicates that it is.

Thus, I make sure it's off the smoker during transport and packed well. If/when it comes time to buy a new one it will be on that is calibrate-able.

I test it every few cooks with a remote digital and gotta love when they read the same temp - then I also know my remote is money.

I have 5 or 6 Tel-Tru's and they all work great. And I think that they will recalibrate them for you for free if it is needed. But I have never had a single problem with them.
