Well Brothers and Sisters, I am going to be going to MO to pick up the new Spicewine around the 24th of August. Man I can't wait. I'm getting really antsy.

I am going to be in Hermann Mo. on Thurs. the 23rd to attend a Judging class then picking up the new smoker on Fri. the 24th.

I was thinking of making the trip on over to Kansas City to check out some of the famous Q joints like Aurthur Bryant's and Oklahoma Joe's Fiday night and maybe Sat. then head back.

Any advice to make this BBQ pilgimage one for the record books?
What to do-not to do, what to see, where to stay etc.

This is a website which I found to be helpful. A group 'cue lovers have gone around KC and rated many of the joints around the area. I wouldn't be surprised if a few Brethren were among the group that went.

It may be dated information, but i found it very interesting.

The KC brethren are going to be your best bet for recommendations.

I ended up going to Wabash for the one chance I had while there, and was a bit of a trip, but I was very happy with the choice.

If you come to KC on Friday night, there is a contest just South of the city. Should be a few Brethren cooking. Go to Backyard Bash in Parkville to pick up local BBQ products. Recommend Smoking Guns restaurant, but they don't to dinner and are closed on weekends.

Oklahoma Joe's and Arthur Bryants are good choices.

It would be really cool to meet some Brethren!!

Know anyone that will be cooking? What is the name of the comp?

Just remember when you pick up your spicewine to stop at a store and get Terri some flowers. It goes a long way.

Cass County Square Off - Harrisonville, MO

I'm planning to cook it, but haven't entered yet. Hopefully they aren't full.

Man, this is ironic. This was kcquer's hometown. There was even a place there called Scott's BBQ. He thought that was interesting too.

BD,
I swear I was just thinking about the cherry tree that Greg and the gang
planted. NO CHIT...Not 5 minutes ago.

FARK........ He would want us to KEEP ON TRUCKIN' and no matter what
or where WE will remember the past and strive to move forward.

If a brethren passes through there, HE KNOWS

Yeppers and that tree was planted pretty damned well IMHO.

I planted several hundred over my short little career.

Ask Willcat, I believe I almost drove him over the edge. And I like it.

Nope, I just wanted this to be the best tree I ever helped plant. We did a really awesome job for KC. May god rest his soul and shine down on us with his awesome wisdom.

Neil,
you're gonna be all over the place! Let me know what Q joints to decide on and where you plan to be and I'll see if I can work meeting ya and some other guys for some Q in the area.
Is your family coming with you?

There is also the Roots Festival in Paola, KS south of the city on the Kansas side. Smoke on Wheels, Ribs 4 U, Great Grills of Fire, BBQ 2 (just joined as "Timmy") are all on the list to be there.

No family Dan, solo flight. I'll give ya a call. PM me when would be a good time to call.

Mike, that would be cool if we could arrange it so a bunch of Brethren could get together that weekend.

I may be out picking up mine at the same time.

This is looking more and more like a possibility for me as well (Although I haven't heard from Jay or Terri in a while on a completion date....Hey, I'm just sayin') as I'm pretty booked up the first 2 weekends of August with my dad's 81st birthday this weekend and the Belair comp next.We could have the SpiceTrain on the way back!

It's official,

I'll be departing on the 22nd and arriving on Columbia late the 23rd. Pick up on the 24th and then who knows?????
