• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I have decided to take the plunge and purchase a guru for my WSM. Was hoping maybe to find a black friday sale somewhere online. Anybody know of any?

Rick

I don't have a WSM but my buddy does. Why do people feel the need to use a guru on WSM,BGE, or drums? They seem to hold temps very well for long periods of time.

Just curious as I have never used those types of cookers.

So they can smoke when they sleep without worry.

Get a FlameBoss instead....for the simple fact that FlameBoss offers fantastic customer service....BBQ Guru on the other hand....well....sucks...

Since I'm just a backyard cook (no comps or catering) I never got the appeal of overnight smokes. I kick the heat up - 270 to 325. Start with daylight- finish with daylight. If my cook goes awry, I learn from it and do better next time- no batteries, no probes, no hoping that customer service will do right by me.

But some folk DO love their gizmos I suppose.

I have a BBQ Guru Digi-Q DXII and has worked flawlessly for about 4 years now and have had no problems. It has accidentally seen rain during hurricane Sandy because the cover blew off mid cook in hurricane winds and rain, no harm - no foul. I use it every week, even during the cold blowing winter snow, it works like a charm each and every time.

In fact I also have one of the earlier models from maybe the 80's where it used a knob to control the temperature with no display. Although I no longer use it, it also worked flawlessly until I retired it. Now it sits framed in a shadowbox as a reminder of the beginning of my BBQ.

One of the benefits of the Guru is the anticipatory algorithm in the software where it determines the response/reaction time to change and adjust itself accordingly, thus eliminating almost all spikes. It can also step the temperature of the smoker down as you near the finished temperature of the meat to avoid overcooking in case you are side tracked.

I can't comment on the others products as I have never used them, and I have never needed customer service because my products have always worked without incident. Like anything else, these items are just tools used in or craft. If you care for your tools they'll last a long time.

Just wanted to thank everybody for the feed back. I want to do more longer cooks overnight and have the food ready for the table around the 5PM hour. Thinking a device like the Guru would eliminate a few worries. Thanks again all.

I agree with IAmMadMan Guru products are really good My only problem has been that the Temp probe went bad- an easy fix My experience with Guru's customer service is that it is Excellent
