• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Rookie question. I just purchased a gas upright smoker from Lowes. This is the Grillware, a relatively inexpensive way to start learning. Do any of you have experience with the wood chips in a gas smoker? If I do ribs for 4 hours at 230, how much wood is enough to create that thin "Blue" smoke everyone talks about?

Obviously I need to get a feel for smoking with this gas system. Should I continue to smoke for the full 4 hours? I appreciate any feedback you can give.

I smoked for about a year on a gas smoker. It has a cast iron fire box. I got that thing very hot, added the wood to get it smoking, then backed off the heat. Once the smoke thins out, add the meat.

If you need to add more chips/chunks, make sure they are pre-heated.
